Anyone Flown On A330-200 Or 300?

Wed Dec 17, 2003 10:21 pm

Im about to take my first flight on a QF A330-200 and 300 in March.
I have never flown on these types of aircraft before as a matter of fact i've never flown on an Airbus before which is why I deliberately booked with QF instead of DJ, also the tickets only cost $10 more.
What I want to know is what to expect on these aircraft?
Will I be disapointed after having flown on aircraft like the 767-300 and 777-200?
We remind passengers all flights are non smoking, if you are caught smoking you will be asked to sit outside on the wing

Anyone Flown On A330-200 Or 300?

No.

Remarkably enough EVERY SINGLE PASSENGER FLIGHT of these aircraft have flown completely empty. Quite remarkable really.

Have flown on the A330-200, TAM, CDG-GRU-CDG. Great airplane to fly with. In my opinion it's better and you have a little more space then on 767-300.
Never flew on 777-200 so I can't tell the difference.

I have flown on all of the aircraft you have mentioned and you should enjoy the A330. Its smaller than the B772 and is nearly as good, but it is a lot better than the B767.

Airbus make a good aircraft so you should have no worries.

Yeah, I've flown UL's 330s routing CMB-UL / WMKK), Malaysia">KUL-SIN-CMB. They were great! I've also flown the 772 several times - but I wasn't disappointed with the 330.

I have flown on the A330 3 times and will fly on one in January again. As for my expirience, the seats were rather cramped. But all in all its a great plane. Comparing it with the B767 I prefered the 767.

The A330 is an excellent plane for pax. In my experience, admittedly only one airline - EK (with RR engines), it's also a very quiet plane.

After flying Sri Lankan , Thai and Malaysian Airlines A330 , its a joy to fly on the A330 and an advantage flying A330 over the 777 is that the cabin is quieter and no middle seat !! You will love flying the A330. In my opinion , much more comfortable then the 767 .

I flew on the A330-200 3 1/2 years ago. I was very impressed with the aircraft. The takeoff performance was phenominal. I was flying from Miami to Stockholm, Sweden nonstop and that plane just took off so easily. It is indeed a very quiet aircraft. One unique feature about the particular aircraft I flew on was the underfloor toilets. In the middle of the cabin is a double wide staircase that leads downstairs where there is a sitting area and five toilets. The reason for this option is that it frees up space in the cabin for additional seating. There are also 2 tiolets on the passenger level for anyone who is handicapped. The toilets seemed a little bigger also than the ones you normally find on the main deck. I think it's a great idea and also the passengers don't get stuck sitting next to a toilet with peoples rears in there face as they que for the toilet. Smart move Airbus!!!

Flew on a Korean A330 2 times, Although it was a short 1 hour domestic flight from GMP to CJU, it was still very enjoyable, a nice plane !

I've been on A330-200 when Swissair still existed. Then I was agian on it but while it was owned by Crossair and last time under Swiss Int'l name  Smile
I really hate that aircraft. Its good for shuttle flights between NYC and DC but not comfortable for Atlantic crossing.
I preffer B767 or B777 over those cramped buses.

I thought that the A330/A340 was wider than the 767 by at least one row ? Anyways, it would depend on the airline..

I've flown on TAM's A330-200 from MIA to Sao Paulo and back to MIA. A very nice plane, smooth, quiet and comfortable. Of course, ultimate comfort on most airplanes depends on the airline's configuration, so your mileage may vary.

Flew on QF's A332 "A" and "C" recently SYD-PER and PER-SYD. I was really looking forward to travelling on them however I was disappointed. On the SYD-PER sector the video was out of action and on the PER-SYD sector the video was intermittent (really annoying) and the audio was out of action. The economy seats are pretty shitty and uncomfortable (like all QF economy seats). If you sit near the leading edge of the wing be prepared for the noise when the slats are deployed. The view of the wing and one of the CF-6s is worth it though. They are quite impressive - certainly slightly larger diameter than the CF-6s on the old A300s.

I've flown on an Air Canada A330-200 and 2 US Airways A330-300s.

Both flights were exceptional, miles better than the old 767s I've flown transatlantic, take-off is not too powerful and I felt was very sedate both times, rate of climb was also quite slow (but I guess with 9hrs+ fuel it would make it quite heavy!).

Seating is cool - 2-4-2 in economy, - so you never disturb more than one person to get up - and if there's two of you like there was us, you get the 2 seats to yourself of course! The leg room was very generous both times, and nice wrap-around headrests made for a comfortable flight. Quite wide as well - about 3-4 inches at the side of my window seat before the wall!

AC had a space for PTVs but weren't installed, US had PTVs with a system to watch whatever you want whenever you want! Cool!

Sitting just in front of the wing is cool, the wingspan is huge and you can really see the flex on the wing on take-off!

flown the A330 from Jamica to Manchester with Monarch.

Supposed to be an A330 to Jamica but technical problems prevented this, a few hours delay and we get a stand in plane, a nice old DC10.

The DC10 flight there took 10 hrs, the A330 flight back took 7hrs.

I flew on the first A330-300 for NW to Amsterdam, and it was not a pleasureable one. The seats were ok but not as good as the seats in the 767s and 777s in CO's Fleet, also there were some problems with the movie, but it's a new plane so what can u say and I prefer the 2-1-2 Business Seating and 2-3-2 economy seating on CO's 767s over the 2-2-2 Business Seating and 2-4-2 economy seating on NW's A330s.

I would suggest that these are more of NW v CO comparisons than A330 v B767. They seem more down to configuration than the aircraft itself.

I recently flew DTW-FRA-DTW on NW's new 330. I really liked it. The IFE was great and the seat with the adjustable headrests in coach were greatly appreciated on the long flight.

I've flown on a Thai Airbus A330-322 from MNL-BKK-MNL a few months ago. I prefer 767 and 777 over the A330. Its not that I don't like the plane but I just prefer Boeing over Airbus.

I have flown on an SN A332 DFW-BRU and BRU-DFW in 2001. Nice plane. Leisurely takeoff from DFW due to many pallets of mail loaded onboard. OTOH, the takeoff from BRU was very powerful. This plane now flies for LH.

I noticed that many praise it's quietness; when flying on an exit row window seat it's not quiet at all. But I guess that's to be expected sitting right next to the engine.

Flown on the following, some several times:

-200: A4O-KB, A4O-KE, A6-EAA, A6-EAC, A6-EAK, G-MDBD, G-WWBB, G-WWBM
-300: B-HLK, N671UW, N672UW, VR-HLC

All very pleasant flights. VOD great on US Airways, J class on EK and BD also pretty good. I far prefer A330s with two seats by the window to larger widebodies like 747s with three seats by the window in Y class. The Airtours (now MyTravel) A330 was "different" in that the rest rooms are downstairs below the main deck, but I believe MYT are the only airline to have taken this option.

I've only flown the 333 once (LHR-YYZ) an Air Crap...er....Canada service. I absolutely hated the A/C. Nothing to do with Airbus product, but more to do with the absolute lack of service provided by Air Canada. There's nothing more frustrating for me then to try to watch some of the in-flight movie on a shared cabin screen when the cutout for PVT's are in every seat. Of course Air Canada wouldn't want to spring for the extra cost of installing PVT's, I mean why bother with customer satisfaction. I apologise for my rant, I really do miss Canadian Airlines.
I'm flying on a US 333 PHL-FRA on Friday night, and they have PVTs. Hopefully it will be a better experience!

I found some remarks on this thread rather funny. Thread starter asked for an *aircraft* comparison, not airline comparison... problems such as configuration, seat, IFE, it's sole responsability of the operator, not the builder... at least pick the comparison in the same house, i.e. QF 767 vs QF 330...

By the way, Lauda777, what do you intend for a comparison? In flight smoothness? Loudness? Sense of spaciousness?

Having flown A332 (TAM) and A333 (Cathay Pacific) as well as B762 (Air Zimbabwe, SAA) and B763 (American, Royal Brunei, Scandinavian) and B772 (British Airways, United) I can only say: the flights were very comfortable, the seats were better on some, worse on others, the pitch in Economy was always somewhere between horriffic and comfortable...

I'll prefer a 33x or 77x over the 76x anytime, but if it's a 330 or a 777, you're bound to have a good flight (depending, obviously, on how much space the airline gives you...).

And one last personal comment: anyone who says "on those cramped busses" or something similar about Boeings - folks, get a reality check!!! The aircraft being cramped hardly has anything to do with Airbus or Boeing, or, to use a slightly altered quote from a quite famous American TV discussion between presidential candidates a few years back: "It's the AIRLINE, stupid!!!"

Flew:

UAL B767-300ER MIA-HAV-MIA
LTU A330-300 MIA-DUS-MIA

I found both to be great airplanes, with "OK" rated space available. There was lightly more space in the A330, since I was sitting all the way in row 51-K all by myself. HEHE Ok, seriously, I found a little more space in the A330.  Wink/being sarcastic

I'm not saying that I don't like Airbus aircrafts. I've flown A319 and A320 on SR and US Shuttle. I really like them. Leather seats. Generous legroom.

I just don't like A330 in Swiss fleet. Whenever I had a chance to fly with them from IAD to ZRH I had a back problem after the flight. They must have the worst seats in the Airline industry.

BTW - My best Airbus flight was with Sabena A340 BRU-JFK  Smile

I've flown the B763 and A332, and found the A332 much nicer in general. I'm comparing EI and BA over here. The A332 was quieter (I find the B763 quite loude inside), and the A332 was also less cramped.

PS Rafal: LX is installing new seats on the A332.

I have flown both A332's and 762's from YEG to HNL. I found the flight on the A332 to be slightly more enjoyable mostly due to the fact that the aircraft was much newer than the 762's I was on. AC's 762's are getting quite old. Really though, there was nothing to complain about on either type of aircraft. I've found that the crew and airline has more to do with an enjoyable, smooth flight, than the aircraft itself....

I love the A330 because it gives all the commodity and features of a 772 but there is no "double-excuse" seat. It feels less crowdy, a bit more intimate, if that word even qualifies to flight aboard a jetliner...

In 1999, Thai A330-300 (brand new a/c...was great), in Economy

In Feb of this year, Malaysian in Business....only sad thing was the duration of the flight -- 1 hour, from KUL to SIN.

In the last 1½ years:

KLM 747 Amsterdam-Mexico City-Amsterdam
Mexicana 727 Adv Cancun-Mexico City
(deep sigh and a feeling of great humility)
British Airways 767 London Heathrow-Baltimore Washington-London Heathrow (Club World)
Malaysian 777 Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur-Amsterdam
Malaysian A330-300 Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta

and a lot of 'small fry' besides

The 727 is undoubtedly be the best machine there is!
Closely followed by the 777
And then the 330
After that the 747
Followed by the poor old 767 (why is the 767 so unloved?)

I've flown on a USAirways A333. In my opinion, it far surpassed the 763 we took on the return flight, in terms of space, general comfort, and noise. As I haven't been on a 777 yet, I can't decide there, but I was very very pleased with the A330.
Hopefully I'll fly on many more 330s with Qantas!

Hey,

Ive been on Canada 3000's A330-200's 3 times from Toronto to Port Of Spain Trinidad. Excellent aircraft, very silent and flies smoothly. They also had the GE engines. On takeoff, you can hear the engines roar, and they sound great, but in the air, everything seems to hum. Its a really nice bird.

Enjoy your flight.

Excellent Aircraft to fly on, really quiet and comfortable aircraft.

The seating, IFE and configuration is dependent on the airline and I cant speak for Qantas.

I have flown on MyTravel's A330-200's and this is aweful in a high capacity configuration, they have 9 across where most scheduled airlines in coach class offer 8 accross. I did like the way the toilet idea n MyTravel being under the main cabin.

I have also flown on US Airways A330-300's several times and Gulf Air's A330-200's. The 200 series on take off feel like they perform a lot better and more powerful on take off that the 300 series.

US Airways are my favourite for comfort wise, excellent legroom, on demand seat back IFE (where you can stop and start a film when u want), and the lighting feels better.

The A330 is my favourite aircraft of all. Infact I love all airbus aircraft hence my name. I also included my favourite airline---RYANAIR---.

Aer Lingus is the nicest livery of the A330,but they are getting some fierce competitors
e.g Northwest
Ryanair 'The Low Fares Airline' and now also 'The On-time Airline'

I've been of four A333's and they are fine, better then the 763 but I can't say regarding the 777 as I've never stepped foot on one.

2 x Cathay
1 x Philippines (Jump seat for landing  Smile/happy/getting dizzy )
1 x Thai
Bush, your a sad, sad man.

I Have Flown:

SA)">AA, SA)">CO: 764

QF, KL: 763

QF, EI, 9W: 732

QF, BD, CX, MH: 333

QF, CX, SA: 332

The 330's are nicer and newer than the 767's. I enjoy them more. The quietness is bliss.
