Birth Of Aviation

Fri Dec 19, 2003 10:34 am

Congratulations everyone on 100th anniversary of aviation yesterday.

However, there is one small question that has been bugging me for some time. After doing some research I could not come up with a definite solution so I decided to take this question to people who really know.

Anyway, where did aviation begin? North Carolina's license plates say "First In Flight" while Ohio's license plates say "Birthplace of Aviation". Who are we to believe?

The Wrights were from Ohio, I'm pretty sure. "Birthplace of Aviation" really means "birthplace of the guys who made aviation a reality," for lack of a better phrase. Kitty Hawk, NC was the site of their flights.

I believe the reason for that is NC is the place where they first flew, but Ohio is where they were born.

North Carolina says first in flight because that is where the Wright's completed their first flight, Kitty Hawk NC. Ohio says Birthplace of Aviation because many aviation related things have happened there, and Im not sure but were the Wrights from Ohio?

I hope this helps a little, sorry I could not answer your question more completley!
