My favorite? JAL. They've been the only airline to give me an upgrade to first class! (GRU-JFK on a 747-400, Christmas 2000). Plus, the service was magnificent and the FA didn't even flinch when I asked for the aircraft tail number (which has since been lost in the sands of time)

CBPhoto, I agree wholeheartedly. It's Singapore Airlines!

JetBlue is the best within the US. Again, by a broad margin.

KLM, Swiss, Malaysian, Thai and Air Asia are quite good as well.

Bottom of the barrel? Aer Lingus, Biman, Indian Airlines, British Airways.

International and Domestic? Air New Zealand
Why? When I was young I was flying with my Mum and Dad to Fiji one of the flight attendents asked me if I would like to visit the Pilot. While I was heading up to the Cockpit the flight attendent was explaning to me the history of the 747-200 that I was flying on. On every Domestic flight I have been on the flight attendents were never rude, always had a smile on their faces.

My favorite airline is Virgin Atlantic. I have always enjoyed the way that this airline caters to the younger set, yet still retains the style and luxury of their more conservative trans Atlantic rivals. I don't know if anyone has ever seen their animated flight safety video - if you have, this is exactly what I am getting at. Now Richard Branson and his antics I am taking with a grain of salt. Overall I have immensely enjoyed flying with them and am greatly looking forward to my upcoming LHR-JFK leg on their A340-600.

LanChile and British Airways. Swiss I think is good, too, but the last time I took them was in 1994, so I don't know how their product is today.

Within the US (I've never flown internationally), I generally fly either US or UA, depending on which fare is cheaper...jetBlue is a better airline (although they do have their bad-apple Flight Attendants, every airline does) but they don't have the network reach that I need, as I fly to a lot of different places domestically...US may be lacking in IFE, but their service is generally outstanding...I've never had a problem with UA either...

Some of my best flights have been aboard the following:
-Canadian North (the hole damn thing is great!)
-Canadian Airlines International (sucks ass that they are gone)
-Canadian Regional (Beats Jazz)
-Air New Zealand (nice service!)
-Air Canada Jazz (had a few very nice flts, and a few horrible flts too)
-Alaska Airlines (only flew them SEA-ANC-SEA but it was a good flt with friendly crew)
-Era Aviation (not sure bout regular flts but the DC-3 tour was very well done)

Worst flights:
-Air Canada Jazz
-Air Canada

Other airlines that i have flown that were nothing special but were still nice flts
-Ansett Australia
-ZIP
-First Air
-Air BC
-Continental
-Might be more that i cant remember

Tony Lu,
I just wanted to tell you something. I was reading your post about the CO A380 HKG CLE, well buddy get real CO will never order that crappy ass plane as they have no real use for it. Next time you decide to use the A380, please use a diffrenet airline, cuz it may just throw people off.

Happy Traveling

Hey, don't want to sound like a wanker (use asshole or Mutha F*#ka if American), but you Americans who have your favourite airlines, that are often American, should obviously get out and live a little.

I grew up Stateside and was subjected to the national airlines for many years. And really your majors don't compare to most of the airlines of Asia or many of the airlines of Europe. Can't write about other continents.

So, as I said about not wanting to sound like a wanker (but probably not succeeding), your airlines surprise me in that you put up with them.

United pulled out of our country and chose to only codeshare with Air New Zealand. This is because the traveling public (Americans, New Zealanders and all others) chose to fly with NZ and QF.

UA said that it was due to an unprofitable route - NZ fly more than two direct 744 non-stops a day between LAX and AKL as well as over one a day direct 763's.

Really, when vehemently espousing the virtues of an airline, have something meaningful to compare it with.

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and any other meaningful seasonal salutation you require.

Definitely not ANY American carrier. Though Air Canada is probably the best in North America. (Yeah, believe it or not)

Worldwide... I'd say any asian /australasia carrier, and in Europe, anyone with the exception of Iberia.

Vanguard! (sniff!)

Seriously... The best airline I've ever flown is no longer what it once was... YX just isn't the same anymore...

CO, OTOH, is the best (domestic US) Major I've flown on for Y class travel...

In the interest of full disclosure, I've never flown on a non-US domestic carrier.
