"Waterski"

It's really dumb in that it has nothing to do with anything, but it still sounds cool.

"Blue Streak" is cool too.

Good call on the BlueStreak, but i have to say ASA's is pretty good. It's "Chandler" I have no clue where they got it from, but sounds good.

My favorite call sign doesn't exist anymore, it was "Shark" and it was used by Eurowings Charter GmbH (the part of Eurowings which operated the A 319's to charter destinations). Germanwings (the successor of Eurowings Charter) also used it, but now they use the callsign "Germanwings", which sounds quite boring in my opinion.

Forgive my ignorance - are these callsigns, or just fleet "nicknames"?

AA - LuxuryLiner
EA - Whisperjet
UA - Friendship
(as amusing ones)

But Speedbird definitely wins...

It's "Chandler"

Actually it's "Candler"... comes from the original airline name based on an executive.

Isn't ASA "Candler"? Think the Coca-Cola guy was Asa G. Candler?

Canadian Pacific was "Empress"? Not bad. Didn't Air New Zealand used to be something good?

Actually, ASA's is "Candler" (no "h"), and it comes from Asa Candler, one of founders (if not THE founder) of Coca-Cola, which, like ASA (notice the initials?), is based in Atlanta. Read that in an Airways magazine some time ago.

For me, I'd have so say my favorite call signs are:

Speedbird (British Airways)
Shamrock (Aer Lingus)
Cactus (America West)
Clipper (Pan Am)
Iceair (Icelandair)
From rural Carlisle, Iowa

"Speedbird" is the best in my opinion.

At YYC Central Mountain Air is operated under the callsign "Glacier" which is pretty cool too.

HP- Cactus
AEU- Flystar
VG- Reubens
T3- Eastflight
BAE- Felix ( I think....)
SA- Springbok
N7- Red Rock

I heard A Volar Airlines A321 coming into MAN this evening, but couldn't catch the callsign - it used to be "Lima Tango Echo", but this is not what it was using, so i assume that there is now a new callsign as well as a name change from LTE...???

Chautaqua... it's the actual name, but it's amusing nonetheless.

Other than that, I like Cactus. It's fun when we see one coming in or out of here (OMA). I will look up and say "Oh... it's a Cactus". Definately confuses people as to why I am looking skyward for desert plants.

Thanks for the spelling check. I knew what the callsign was just couldn't spell it. I worked for DGS and Comair, so I know the history of DL and Delta Connection.

Just to set the record straight on "Candler," Atlanta is in Candler County, Georgia, which is named after Asa Candler, the founder of Coca-Cola. It's interesting that A.S.A.'s callsign is Candler and that Mr. Candler's first name was Asa.

How about "Lobster" which, if this book I have is correct, is Hamburg International's callsign. Not my favorite but interesting and as far as I know completely unrelated to the airline.

"SPEEDBIRD" would have to my favorite!

Twr: "Speedbird 16", runway 34L clear for takeoff

Speedbird 16: "Speedbird 16",runway 34L clear for takeoff!

Another one of my favorites in the evening would have to be;

"Emirates 413", clear for takeoff.

"EMIRATES 413" clear for takeoff, bye, bye.

2. "Biscain" (sp?) Miami Air
3. "Speedbird"
4. "Citrus"
5. "Critter"

For current call signs, I think SPEEDBIRD is tops...heard it on a cheesy movie last night (fiction about the missing 737...though they changed it to an A310) and had to tell my 10 year old daughter what SPEEDBIRD was...Also, American Eagle's EAGLE FLIGHT sounds cool...like a fighter jet or something...

From the past, I think Pan Am's CLIPPER and National's RED ROCK were cool.

Just curious, what is CO's call sign? Please tell me it isnt just boring old CONTINENTAL....

The FAA tried to use the call sign Brown Tail for UPS, but their pilots raised a major stink.

"Waterski" - used to be appropo when Transtates op'd as US Airways Exp. at LAX.
"Candler" - I've also heard ASA referred to as "ASEA" over the airwaves.
