Are These Real Pilots?

Sun Dec 21, 2003 6:06 am

Hi,

I just downloaded a peice of software called Softscanner, it claims to be a Scanner only you dont need the hardware. It also has ACARS/NAVEX decoder built in.

I have listened to many pilots and towers and police, fire and 911 channels, even the shuttle. My question is: is this real or phony, as I have no radio hardware attached to my PC.

I am sorry if I sound a bit dense, but I am new to this kind of thing.

Regards,

Danny

If you've listened to the Space Shuttle, it phoney, as the Shuttle has not even been up in space for almost one year..........since the accident on 02 Feb 2003.

Sorry, I wasnt too clear there, I beleive the shuttle comms to have been ground engineers and such like on channel. But has anyone else used this software or had any experience of it?

Just a quick heads-up.. There is no need to cross-post this question to all of the forums here.

I don't know anything about the Softscanner software, but it's probably just a front-end to access scanner audio feeds that are available on the internet. Lots of ATCs, police departments, etc. broadcast their audio over the internet, but unless you know they're out there, they're not always easy to find. I'm guessing this software just puts it all in one place.
