Virgin Pilot Shows Up Drunk At IAD...

Mon Dec 22, 2003 3:46 pm

I saw today on NBC news that a Virgin Atlantic Pilot arrived at the terminal drunk, and tried to board the plane so that he could make his flight from IAD - LHR. Somehow he was stopped (Luckily) and was removed from the plane, and is being charged with some sort of crime in the state of Virginia. This happened yesterday, as the passengers suffered a major delay, and arrived only early this morning. Do you all think there should be harsher rules / laws about drunkenness in pilots, or should the airlines handle it more?
(If there was a thread on this already...sorry, I looked, but didnt see anything) I cant believe this happened at IAD! My airport!!  Wow!

There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior. I feel sorry for the airline in this case because I feel it is the individuals responsibility to stay sober when reporting for duty as an active pilot on an airliner.

How on earth can an experienced 747-400 captain turn up for duty while under influence ? I really don´t get it...
