AC Cancels CPH

Mon Dec 22, 2003 7:53 pm

Heard from AC that they do not have the aircraft to operate the CPH service next summer. Schedule is no longer in the system and pax are being re-routed.

Unfortunately I can confirm this information - as mentioned by Billy It's cancel due to Shortage of aircrafts.

According to the AC representative here in Copenhagen they had very good loads on the route this past summer and therefore regrets the decision.

Billy (I know it's off topic - sorry): Do you know if Easyjet will make an announcement of new routes in connection with the release of their summer schedule in the coming days?

Here in Copenhagen there are a lot of rumors regarding new Easyjet routes, but nothing concrete at the moment. Actually it's quite difficult to find out what's going on between Easyjet and Copenhagen Airport! Last week Easyjet was again out in the Danish press with hard criticism of the cost level here at CPH - it was the same old story that they wouldn't expand further from CPH unless the airport would give theme some cost reduction.

Anyway two days later, Peter van der Heijden (Easyjet's marketing manager for Holland and Scandinavian) tells the Danish travel trade magazine "Takeoff" that they expect to open a route between CPH and Malaga from June 2004 and that several other routes could be under way - Not Easy to find out what to believe...

Cheers

Strange that they haven't got the aircraft for the route - are they selling their 767's at the moment, or?

I haven't heard anything regarding Easyjet's criticism, and I read JP daily. Where did you see see it?

If I'm not mistaken, U2 have just opened a route to Berlin, so I guess they've gotten some very good loads since they know want to operate to Malaga. Either that, or else they've just realized where 50% of the Danish population disappears every winter: to the South  Laugh out loud

CPH-R: Børsen, Berlingske and Erhvervsbladet.

No the CPH-SXF route will operated from May 2004. In the past two weeks they have opened Bristol-CPH and Newcastle-CPH - it was in connection with the official opening of the route to Bristol that Peter van der Heijden came with the statement to Takeoff about the Malaga route

Well that would explain it - I quit Børsen a while ago (had a free subscription for 3 months) and now I stick with JP's business section.

I wonder if the Malaga route is going to make things worse for Mytravel Scandinavia, since it seems that a lot of people have taken up the habit of finding a small cozy hotel of their own, away from the overcrowded charter hotels and then only need the plane tickets. Personally, I only stay at Charter hotels, complete with guides, parties and 2 meals pr day. But what the heck, I'm a child of the Charter generation (and with a mom that worked at Spies for 8 years it was hard to get out) Big grin

I don't think it would have a large effect on MyTravel Scandinavia! I will probably have more impact on the Sterling and Snowflake routes from CPH to AGP - Sterling operates the route on daily basis and Snowflake 4 times a week.
