Gimli Glider was a 767....
But yes, when the MD
-90 was unveiled, it was touted as, "the world's quietest jetliner." As to whether it still is... I am not sure. Since a variation of the same engine that powers the MD
-90 also powers the A320 (IAE v2500), maybe the A320 and MD
-90 are similar in noise levels, and neither may be the quietest any longer.
Maybe the Avro RJ
-100 is the quietest? I have no idea as to that being the case, but since the BAe 146 was the quietest at one time (prior to the rollout of the MD
-90) and the ARJ series was significantly quieter, maybe the ARJ is in there somewhere?
As I said, as to the MD
-90... depends on what has come following its launch, but it was most certainly the quietest at one point.
