Airtran 717's

Tue Dec 23, 2003 3:48 pm

Whenever I have flown airtran in coach class, their seats seem to be extremely hard and uncomfortable. On the other hand, the US majors seem to have much more comfortable coach seats.

Does anybody else have similar opinions?

Maybe the seats are too new, and haven't been broken in yet? I've somewhat noticed it too.

There aren't years of farts on them to break them in. The DC-9s had comfy seats  Smile

The -2BDs and -2S7s have slimline seats that are fairly comfortable but very cheap and have not held up well at all. They will probably have to be replaced before too long. The -231s still have TWA's seats which are of much higher quality but very flat and very hard. The 737s are supposed to get nice Recarros!

TW's seats in First on the 717 were hard and stiff... squeaked when you reclined. They were too new to be broken in.

I only flew 717s with TWA, but boy did they have nice seats. I found them firm and supportive.

I've flown Airtran quite a bit this year. I have never noticed it. But I don't typically pay attention to that. I don't really expect seats on a plane to be nice unless I am in first class. I'll try to see if I notice next time.

I've been on 12 FL flights in the past two years (3 r/ts). I've only ever found the DC-9 seats to be uncomfortable.
