Approach To 13L At JFK

Tue Dec 23, 2003 4:36 pm

What is the reason for a strange crooked approch when landing on 13L at JFK. Why not come in straight?!?!?

Because using the whole ILS would conflict with LGA, EWR, NYC helicopter and other traffic. It's also a lot quicker to use the Canarsie Approach... There's a really long thread on the Canarsie Approach (Approach to 13L) like 2 weeks ago...

Yeah i saw this approach on many aircraft when I was waiting for my flight to Korea and then onto Australia with KE. It was quite strange at first when I was looking and the plane was flying a diffrent direction totally and onto the runway minutes later. It does look pretty cool that approach, when I first landed at JFK i was wondering why we took a nice sharp turn and a couple of months later after I flew back out of JFK i realized why.
