SWISS's New Plans Revealed For Summer 04

Wed Dec 24, 2003 5:18 pm

Swiss International Air Lines will make adjustments to its long-haul network in summer 2004 and winter 2004-05 that will permit it to reduce its long-haul fleet by two to 18 aircraft as specified under the present business plan.

Service to Cairo will be increased from five to six weekly frequencies. In addition, from summer to winter, flights to Boston, Montreal, Hong Kong and Tokyo Narita will decrease slightly while services to Miami, Johannesburg and Bangkok-Singapore will increase. Flights to Newark, Los Angeles and Sao Paulo also will decrease in the summer.

Services between Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires no longer will be operated by Swiss but will be entrusted to a partner airline under a codeshare arrangement. Swiss said it is currently in talks with a number of candidate carriers regarding these flights.

**The previous post only had the Latin American topic of LX discussed and not its other intercontinental destinations!!!

Increasing flights into BKK/SIN and JNB? More than daily flights?

Reducing NRT? I mean JL went back to two weekly flights and JL sells on LX as well. LX was very happy when they where granted daily landing rights at NRT and now they are going to decrease flights at Tokyo?

Where do you have these news from?

These are just some seasonal changes. Swiss is taking back some frequencies on routes which are not performing well during the summer. They're adding those frequencies again later.

I don't have the exact details here right now, but they were released yesterday. The whole schedule changes are a result of the ongoing restructuring which leaded to a smaller longhaul fleet.

Any plans for LX starting a service to SFO? Does anyone know if Gulf Air is still considering the SFO-GVA-BAH route for next spring?

I doubt LX will start SFO considering that it is decreasing flights to LAX ! I dont think there would be much revenue on this route...

Md11lover if you even find out about Gulf air let me know because Im thinking about going to SFO and would love to fly non stop outta GVA.

Gulf Air is so screwy you don't know what they are going to do. They could start flights to Timbuktu and it wouldn't surprise me. No matter what hogan says I think they are losing millions and millions, and have to stop this expansion nonsense to get its act together.

They are cutting service to BOS? How often will they fly there under the new plan? I believe they fly there daily now and that the flights are usually full.

Chances are LX will begin more codesharing flights with AA when it comes on-line with OneWorld in April 2004. You might start seeing LX feeding AA connecting flights at their respective US gateways.

SFO will be feeder for AA flights at LAX, and BOS could be fed from JFK.

It seems long haul services will increase in the winter 04/05 schedule. All with A343's. Strange if they are decreasing the long haul fleet from 18 to 16.

BKK Summer 6x Winter Daily (SIN same schedule as BKK -ZRH-BKK-SIN)
BOS Summer Daily Winter Daily
CAI Summer Daily Winter 5x
EWR Summer 6x Winter 6x
GRU Summer 5x Winter 6x
HKG Summer Daily Winter Daily
JNB Summer 6x Winter Daily
LAX Summer 6x Winter Daily
MIA Summer 5x Winter Daily
NRT Summer 6x Winter Daily

This being LX, all schedules above are subject to change.

In an interview today, Dosé (CEO) claimed he was confident Swiss would break even in 2004. When did we hear that last?

Furthermore, he is still confident the company will secure the Sfr 500mio they need.

Gulf Air has written off SFO for their future plans and now the plan is to fly BAH-JFK-BAH nonstop with a single A 343 totally devoted to the route so I gather it shall be 4 weekly nonstop flights with a lot of cargo bound for Baghdad as well as "X" number of US troops-Govt personnel on board on every flight bound for Baghdad.

Also remember DHL and GF have a huge hub in BAHRAIN and DHL flies 4-6 times daily AB4Fs and B 727Fs to BAGHDAD from BAH.

Yes Dosé said that without restructuring costs they would be in the black numbers already (since October).

If true this would be good news.

Does someone have information about the SWISS charter division? I heard rumours that they will stop charter flights soon.
