Flights On Christmas Eve /christmas Day

Thu Dec 25, 2003 1:08 am

Is it like Thanksgiving... jammed packed christmas eve and christmas morning...but dead christmas night? jw, how are the loads on those holiday nights when they have to get the planes to their departing city for another busy day? (like thanksgiving night)

I remember flying FLL-DFW-LAS on christmas DAY and the FLL-DFW route was dead, but DFW-LAS was jammed back.

My wife once flew IAH-GRU on Dec 24, arriving Dec 25, there were about 30 pax in the widebody.

I will fly BWI-ATL-MLB (Melbourne, Florida) later today. I think these flights are quite full, as we will arrive at MLB around 8:30 PM.

I once flew back from a very fun trip in BOG to my hometown Medellin. I was having so much fun in BOG that I didn't even notice that I was going to travel back, all alone, and on Christmas eve.

It was not an issue at all, because fortunately the flight is extremely short, the plane (757) was almost full, and both cabin crew and passengers were very very happy. They even gave us a typical food that we eat here in Colombia on Christmas.

We arrived at Medellin airport and it was dead place, although my flight was full.

I was glad to see my parents again after the time I was not at home, and precisely in that date.

Regards, and Merry Christmas

I dropped off my partner at ATL this morning-he was flying ATL-TPA to see his folks and it wasn't too bad-except for a very rude APD officer who saw I was trying to move and get out of the way and he pounded on my back window and yelled at me to move-the cop could clearly see I couldn't move anywhere! And I wasn't even close to the curb.  Angry

If you're looking for personal experiences, I flew AA OAK-JFK last Christmas day, and the flight was pretty full. Some of the prices drop on this day, but the loads are still significant.

I just did a web check in at the Alaska Airlines web site for a boondoggle I'm doing tomorrow to gather the last frequent flyer miles possible for 2004. But, a check of seat charts show only a couple of middle seats remaining on AS 5 (IAD-SEA @ 8:00), AS 338 (SEA-LGB @ 14:53), and AS 335 (LGB-SEA @ 17:48). However on AS 6 (returning SEA-IAD at 23:10) the plane appears to be a third empty. Just as well since I'll by sleeping by that time, and perhaps I can have a full row to myself.  Smile

I'm working tonight and tomorrow night, and even though I work the airlink flights, they are either on the completely full or oversold line. Same across the board at every airline here in TOL.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas,

Here in Amsterdam it's very quiet. A lot of flights are cancelled on Christmas eve and also on both Christmas day:

Christmas eve: 33 cancelled flights
25th of December: 77 cancelled flights
26th of December: 42 cancelled flights

The flights which were flying, passenger numbers were very low. Today departing passengers were only 13568 passengers...
