I Need A JOB!

Fri Dec 26, 2003 2:02 am

Merry Christmas everyone !!

My Holidays are going okay, even though I was just laid off from my job at Korean Air. I was notified that I was going to be laid off at the end of the year and my contact would not be renewed.

This is "NOT" the end of the world, but obviously, I am now going to begin a new search for a job, hopefully, with another airline. I have over 8 years of sales and marketing experience in the airline and car rental industry. I really need to stay in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and/or the Texas region.

If anyone knows of any openings in a sales position with my qualifications and background, please contact me.

I will then forward you my resume.

e-mail is

jaydavis8@comcast.net

Thanks to all and I do wish everyone on this forum a Happy Holiday!

If someone could please inform me of any sales/marketing positions open at an airline, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again!

It's entry-level, but Alaska Airlines is hiring Mileage Plan Representatives in SEA:

Also, America West Airlines is in need of Reservations Supervisors for their Tempe, AZ and Reno, NV call centers:

True, but if he applied for those jobs he'd probably be told the same thing! Heck, when I was in college, I used to do temp work over the summer, and there are jobs that I would have been perfectly happy to do, but they went to less-qualified people.

Incidentally, I'm also looking for a job. Anyone need a third-year law student who'll graduate and be ready to work in June?

You don't know me, nor do you know anything about my previous job with KE, so I think I'd learn a little bit more about me, before you go and open mouth insert foot with your comments.

I started with KE as an Area Sales Manager and when I finished my career with KE, I was "still" an Area Sales Manager............

Never was entry-level !!

jobs are hard to come by...maybe lower your standards a little and except an "entry level" job and get back into the industry...alot of people are without jobs in the airline industry now..you may have to take what you can get...that is unless your "over-qualification" self won't except a lower position...

Hello,

I am seeking a job as a first officer on a Boeing 777 or an Airbus A330/A340. I have absolutely 0 hours of flight time on any aircraft. I have worked for several years as a Unix and Windows system administrator however and I feel this makes me well qualified to fly the newer computerized planes. I am also highly proficient in Flight Simulator 2000. Oh yes and I am only looking in the AUS area, I am hoping to fly on one of the many AUS-LHR and AUS-CDG flights. Please forward any interest to my email!

your bud,
Brons2.

Well since ure based in the TEXAS area...search for careers-jobs icon on AMERICAN AIRLINES -DFW headquarters, CO hub in IAH and SOUTHWEST-hub in Dallas...check their home webpages for openings relevant to your interest.

Then check other sites like United's and DLs whom too have small scale hubs in DFW and see if they have a vacancy in TX area. And then check the rest like NWA-F9-America West-Frontier etc etc.

You might find it handy to also just post in your resume to all the International airlines of Asia and Europe (their offices in TX state) that fly into DFW and IAH just for safety and pray for good luck in someone recognizing your qualities-experience and qualifications and hiring you for an opening in your desired field.

DO THIS AS ITS NOT EASY IN GETTING A JOB THAT QUICKLY OF UR LEVEL IN THE AIRLINES THESE DAYS!!!

Dear Brons2,

Your application noted. Your qualifications are eminently suited for what we have in mind, but you will have to give the TOHFL (Test of Hindi as a Foreign Language) before we proceed further. You may need to send 500 dollars, no value against coupon (plus VAT as applicable, not valid where prohibited by law, read instructions carefully before switching microwave on).

Please be aware that our agents in USA are right now proposing and negotiating with a Big Company (the Mg. Dir's to-be daughter-in-law has a senior position), and we hope that all US aircraft shall soon be operated 24x7 by remote management from Bangalore (using Windows based O/S, including gaming ATM cum slot machines on every seat).

We shall need to know more about basic skills. (On taskbar as well as control-alt-delete buttons).

Yours sincerely,

"Mog"

You don't see a District Sales Manager go back to work at the ticket counter or a reservations office. The airline wouldn't even give you the time of day to interview you. They know that you would be so over-qualified it isn't even funny.

Over-qualified? I know taxi drivers at SJC and JFK who earn more than airline sales managers, that's for sure, and probably have a better life-style, too.

You could try SWA. Aren't they based in the Dallas area? What about some of the aircraft manufacturers down there like Vought, Lockheed-Martin, etc.?

It's sad that the aviation employment situation isn't what it used to be, probably never will be again. I know an CFI/CFII/ATP with 15 years flying experience who is considering nursing school as she can't find a job as a pilot, she's overqualified for low-paid instructor jobs and underqualified for airline heavy jet-flying. I admire the kids on here that want to go into aviation, because the future looks even worse for the industry ....

The ironic part of this is that aviation analysts think there will be a massive shortage of people in the aerospace industry in the next ten years. I can vouch for that. The average age here at Boeing after all of the layoffs stand between 46 and 48 years old. All the kids are gone and Boeing isn't in a big hurry to hire more.

I would look into HP anyways. If I'm not mistaken, they are adding service out of DFW and were said to be hiring a significant amount of people for their ops. They might need a local sales rep.

When you get hungry enough, you will discover exactly what your qualifications mean. Several XJ e,ployees are getting ready to join you on the unemployment line as well - industry is saturated, take what you can and build within or get out. Just the plane truth.

Jay,

While you may be over-qualified for an entry-level job, many companies would be thrilled to take you on as a front-line, entry-level employee. I've sat in on interviews for reservations sales agents where the applicants were managers, directors, and other high-level executives. We gladly hired them for their knowledge and experience.

With all due respect, it sounds more like you think that an entry-level job is somehow beneath you.

JayDavis,

I have a funny anecdote related to the over qualification of which you spoke. Over the years I had developed a friendship with a VP at US Airways’ Crystal City HQ. He got wind of the fact that the company would be asking for the resignations of and/or letting a number of people go from his department as a result of the company reorganization. He was just several months away form having the tenure needed to qualify for retirement benefits. He immediately resigned from his position and requested a transfer to the ticket counters at National Airport as part of what he called a semi-retirement in order to have more flexible hours. Two weeks later his temporary replacement and most of the members of his department were let go. He continued to work at the ticket counter for several months until he reached the time he needed. I believe his retirement pay was based on his maximum income during his time with the company as well. Not a bad deal if you ask me.
