Where Would You Like To See AA/AE Fly From FLL?

Fri Dec 26, 2003 3:55 am

I say some flights to ATL. I'd like to rack up some frequent flyer points, and they fly from FLL to destinations I can actually use (AKA, the Caribbean!)!

Also, on my list: JFK, MCO (on mainline or AE), TPA (again, either), JAX (AE), MSY, SFO, ABQ, PHX, MSP.
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

I would say the place i would like to see AA fly out of FLL to would be SFO, the largest O & D market not served from both MIA and FLL.

My opinions:

ATL- Atlanta is one of Miami's biggest O&D markets, so they could probably fill some flights, but Delta and airTran have the FLL-ATL market covered. If you live in Atlanta and want to take AA to the Caribbean, connect in MIA. From FLL they only offer service to SDQ, PAP, and SJU. They also fly FLL-NAS, though NAS is not in the Caribbean.

JFK- I don't think they want to compete with Song and jetBlue. AA offers four daily flights to LGA, which is the perferred airport for business travelers, and does well.

MCO- Never going to happen. They are not going to try to compete with Southwest's nine or so daily.

TPA- Never going to happen. WN has about 13 daily flights.

JAX- Never going to happen. WN has about 6-7 daily flights, and AE only serves MIA-JAX 3x daily.

MSY- A good O&D market, but they won't compete with WN.

SFO- The most likely. I would not be surprised to see AA fly FLL-SFO within a year.

ABQ- Why would they fly FLL-ABQ when they don't fly MIA-ABQ?

PHX- Same thing. They don't even fly MIA-PHX.

MSP- They just added MIA-MSP less than two months ago. FLL-MSP is the last thing on thier mind.

Realisticly, the following markets would work for AA out of FLL:
SFO - Large O&D market; not served non-stop from FLL by any carrier. Rumours are this one is looking good for a 2004 start.
IAD/DCA - Large O&D market; would give Miami-area passengers a choice of gateway. AA flew FLL-DCA during the mid-1990s.
SJO - Largest O&D market between the US and Central America, and Costa Rica tourism is booming right now. I've heard this one is look very good for a 2004 start.
GUA - Large O&D market; AA's second largest Central American market.
KIN - This market has more O&D from Ft. Lauderdale than Miami. South Florida's Jamaican community is centred around Ft. Lauderdale, and Kingston is a high-yielding market (little tourism traffic here).
POS - One of the best yielding markets in the Caribbean, and a lot of demand from FLL.
BOG - They would love to fly it, they even applied with the CAA for the route authority left vacant by Aces. It was given to Avianca.
FPO - Flown until December 2001. Would not be surprised to see it given another shot.
GGT - GGT is the "hot" new market in the Bahamas. American Eagle has nearly tripled service from MIA since October (from one daily flight to 18 flights a week), Continental Connection inagurated service two weeks ago, and Bahamasair is planning to launch service from GGT to South Florida in 2004.
RDU - They already fly FLL-RDU on weekends, in time it should go daily.

They all have high O&D numbers and would benefit by giving AA FF'ers in the Miami area a choice of gateway.

I would like to see them to fly into IND, but this will never happen as AA flies into MIA from IND.

The point of all of AA's point-to-point routes from FLL is to compliment service from MIA. Every route that AA serves from FLL, they serve from MIA. FLL-IND on AA is very unlikely, however, especially since AA started MIA-IND this past November.
