BA Close To Catastrophy In Saudi

Sun Dec 28, 2003 5:04 pm

According to www.gazeta.ru Saudi Arabia's special forces have prevented a terrorist attack whcih was aimed at a Western airliner presumably British Airways. The kamikaze pilot was supposed to fly a light aircraft stuffed with TNT and go down at the BA aircraft while it was taxiing to the runway for take off.
British Ministry of Foreign affairs and British Airways did not confirm the news.

I am glad the attack was prevented!

Interesting, first AF, now BA. Was the pilot of the small aircraft arrested? Any further investigations conducted?

Apparently 2 light aircraft were found on the flight line filled with explosives and two pilots have been arrested. The attack was aimed at a European airline although BA was the probable one.

Does BA fly the 744 or 772 to Riyadh? And what time does it arrive and depart?

Last time I flew to Riyadh, it was a 772. Arrival time is about 10:45ish, depating about 00:30 as far as I can remember. So cover of darkness would be good from the terrorist's perspective.

There's nothing on BBC's website about this at 12:00 today.
