Will BA Ever Have A Special Livery?

Tue Dec 30, 2003 7:23 am

Will British Airways ever paint one of their aircraft in a special livery? bit like QF did with Wunala, Nalanji and Yananyi?

Be nice to see one, what sort of livery would you like to see them paint on one of their aircraft?

No, of course not. That wouldn't be very British. Not at all. After all, Baroness Thatcher may disapprove.

On a less British note, they do occasionally add titles for special events, do they not?

British Airways do occasionally add titles for special events, such as the Poppy Appeal.

If not a special livery, what about retrojets? A 747 in BOAC colours? A 777 in BCal colours? An A.320 in BEA red box? 2004 is BA's 30th anniversary, but then it probably doesn't consider that anything special.

The world tails may not have gone down to well, but they were on every a/c, surely people wouldnt mind seeing one in a special livery. 30th anniversary livery would be nice too!

Would be nice. But I don't see it happening somehow. Rod Eddington's not really a British history kinda guy, being Australian and all...

Don't know what it is. Just some airlines I don't see doing special colour schemes. Especially BA.

BA named 747-436 C-CIVR 'Sweet Chariot' and added rugby logos for carrying England's World Cup winning squad home.

747-136 G-AWNA was painted in a BOAC/Landor hybrid livery in 1998.

I am sure that back in the mid 1990's BA held competitions every December where children design a new Christmas livery and they will put the winning design on an aircraft for Christmas. I can remember seeing a 737 that had been done. - A Tradition which has long since faded away though.

Retrojets sound great - Perhaps TCX could paint all of their fleet into Flying Colours retrojets Big grin

I think its unlikely - BA just like to maintain a strong dependable and consistent 'British' image.

This is why they never retaliate with the constant tacky / libellous slogans that Virgin/Easyjet & particularly Ryanair use in their advertising campaigns.

They don't stoop to their level!

Their branding and sense of decorum is strong, if a little staid at times, but overall, i think events like Concordes last day / Rugby World Cup / various state visits and the 'poppy' image for Rememberance Sunday are strong and tasteful PR for BA without resorting to the tasteless tat of the above.

I would like to see them do something for the 30th anniversary however, but with budgets tight it may not be what they would wish for .
Maybe we'll be surprised!
