PA Pulling Out Of THR And SGN

Tue Dec 30, 2003 8:26 pm

Does anyone know how Pan Am pulled out of Tehran and Saigon in the 70's when those countries were undergoing there revolutions? was there a gradual pullout or was it a destination suddenly dropped from their services? i know at one point both airports were on the PA1/PA2 RTW service but it would be interesting to hear how PA helped evacuate people from THR and SGn when they 'fell' after the revolutions.
You call it the world, we call it home. Pan Am.

There is a pretty good TV movie called "The Last Flight Out"!

It´s the story of Pan Am´s last flight out of Saigon in april of 1975!

The aircraft a 747-100 "Clipper Unity" (in the movie though a TriStar L1011 is featured) was used to evacuate Pan Am employees and their families as well as a lot of other people and orphans!

It was indeed a very impressing and brave thing they did!

The entire crew was formed by volunteers! Otherwise the flight couldn´t have been operated!

Very touching movie!

Best regards,
