Playing Cards On Airlines.

Thu Jan 01, 2004 7:48 am

Hello,
Tomorrow I'm flying on USAirways. I was wondering if they still give out decks of cards? What airlines do still practice this method (if you want to call it a method)? Thanks in advance, and happy New Year!!

They hardly give you food anymore and you want cards. Good Luck.

I can tell you for a fact that US Airways does not hand out playing cards. US has not had playing cards for about ten or so years now. As far as I know, no U.S. registered airline still stocks playing cards.

I do not know if any airlines from other countries still have them on board. I'm sure someone else will be able to advise on that question.

On a DL flight from ATL to YYZ, they had cards and freely handed them out. Kind of surprised me, but maybe cause it was semi-international?

Good Golly!! That's the first time I've heard in years about a U.S. carrier having playing cards. Maybe things are looking up a wee bit.

On my last ATA charter Dec 02 they had decks in every other seat on the L-1011 ;postcards also. The decks had little ATA logos on them.

Might be something that was ordered for the charter. That sometimes happens. It's nice when it does.  Smile

Maybe, but we were going to Saudi Arabia, not Hawaii. Though you never know, they could have been left over. We would clean out the planes on the ramp in Saudi , and I did not always see the cards. We did have them on both my flights though. I remeber the British Cal packs and Pan Am packs from the late 70s and early 80s. I still have a BCal pack  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Freebies...the good ol' days  Wink/being sarcastic

I guess I should have saved a clean pack and Ebay'd it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

That's very true. If an airline finds a case or a box of something left over from days past, it often winds up on a flight somewhere. I can easily see a bunch of cards that were in a warehouse after such time as the airline decided to stop putting cards on its scheduled flights being found and someone deciding to just put it on that charter to Saudi Arabia. The every other seat distribution makes it kind of sound like that.

I know the airlines had all but stopped carrying Playing Cards, but wern't they charging for them-something like $2.00 for a deck? I was on a flight a few years ago and remember someone asking for them and hearing there was a charge- gosh, I have been away for a while......  Smile

The flight attendant on a Southwest flight gave my daughter a deck of Southwest playing cards, plus a really cool "Rubiks cube" type of puzzle.

Southwest still has playing cards. I am an intern for their marketing dept and have all sorts of promotional items. Even a pair of Southwest flip-flops!

I asked for cards on a Delta flight two weeks ago and of course, no joy.
