Any New Info On VLM's LCY-LPL Service?

Thu Jan 01, 2004 11:51 pm

Anyone heard anything more about VLM commencing flights between LCY and LPL? What is the likelihood? If it is likely, what is the proposed frequency?

I remember reading that the CEO of U2 once said that no airline could make a profit on a LPL-LTN service, so I wonder if VLM could on its LPL-LCY routing.

How is VLM doing on LCY-MAN-LCY? What is the average yield?

From VLM's website (http://www.vlm-airlines.com)

"Liverpool gets the service it deserves
Five flights every weekday to London commencing 23.2.2004

At last Liverpool's fight for a direct airlink with London has ended with the launch of our new service to London City Airport which will commence on 23rd February 2004. With five flights every weekday business and leisure travellers will find the 55 minute journey time a massive improvement over the options available to them at present.

LCY-MAN is doing very well by all accounts. Not sure what the yields are but it is soon to be increased to 12 flights each weekday so it must be making them decent money.

Incidentally, didn't VLM operate LCY-LPL for a very brief period a few years ago at a much lower frequency than the new proposed venture? Wonder what has changed to make them think it will be more of a success this time around? Also seems unusual that they are choosing LPL due to it being so near to their existing MAN operation. Maybe they can add LCY-LBA next! (I can dream).

Like a fine wine, one gets better with age.

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah, I looked on VLM's website just before returning to this site, to find that flights between LPL and LCY will commence on the 23rd February. What a waste of a thread, eh?

I hit my head very hard on my speaker, so hard in fact that I've got a huge cut on my forehead. Perhaps that's why I'm a bit dizzy today. :p

It has been rumoured for ages that VLM have been looking into a Humberside to London City service.

They already fly two summer Jersey charters from HUY.
