Odd In Flight Movies!?

Fri Jan 02, 2004 6:38 am

The other day I was flying from KLAX - EGLL and I noticed on one of the IFE channels they where showing Freddie Vs Jason.

Never seen an airline show a horror movie before.

So what’s the oddest movie you have ever seen in flight?

Happy New Year

Kimberly.

Hey Kim
Happy New Year from the Big Apple! The answer to your question in my case is "Buffalo Soldiers," on a BA flight from JFK to LHR in September. It's an excellent movie but as you might know, was practically banned in the United States, was never released here because it shows the US military from a less-than-positive perspective not in keeping with the current prevailing mentality.

I thought it was a bit odd to see Mel Gibson slaughtering the British in "The Patriot" on a BA flight from JFK to LHR...

HI RivervisualNYC,

Did not see Buffalo Soldiers, but I know Virgin banned it as well  Sad

ArmitageShanks,

Crossroads, that would be a horror movie!!! I mean there was very little acting involved  Big grin

Buffalo Soldiers was hilarious, you'd have to have been brainwashed by John Ashcroft not to find it funny...As for the bad celebrity moment ala Crossroads, I am reminded that a couple of years ago I caught Mariah Carey's Glitter on Alitalia, possibly worst movie ever made, and with no PTV, couldn;t change the channel...

Well, if we're talking about inflight cinematic low points, one that comes to mind is "I'll Be Home for Christmas" with Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Jessica Biel. Absolutely painful.

Actually, to be fair to BA, that same flight with "The Patriot" also happened to have the best inflight video programming I have seen. There was one channel featuring Christopher Guest, with "This Is Spinal Tap" and "Best in Show," two of my favorite movies ever.

Hey Everybody....check this out!!!!!

Last month I was working nonstop transcons from EWR to SFO and found hidden behind the VCR a copy of "XANADU" from 1980...obviously forgotton for 23 years...I announced to the passengers the scheduled movie, and then told them this absurd but totally unbelievable story about how I found this movie. Turns out that Xanadu was the movie in Dec. 1980 on our Eastbound transcon flights....I can't believe it was forgotton about all these years...I showed it after the reg movie...as bad as the movie was, I just had to play it...the passengers loved it.....GO OLIVIA!!!!!!!!

That's hilarious! Like an onboard time capsule. Amazing that it was left there through all the maintenance checks, etc. over the years.

I'm curious what type of plane this was with the 23 year old movie on board? 757's, 767's, 737NG's, Airbuses and other planes currently used transcon today didn't exist in 1980.

Ummm, most airplanes in 1980 still had "reel" type projectors.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

Olivia was hot, and Xanadu produced some chart-topping hits in 1980 even though the movie flopped at the box office....OK, I am a straight, airplane-loving male, but I will admit to being a Xanadu fan!

A few years ago UA showed us "Congo" on a long haul flight. As a personal opinion is was very innepropreate for young children.

When I was a F/A, the worst movies we ever showed were:

Welcome to Collinwood

and

Adventures of Pluto Nash

and

Scooby-Doo (Real life)
------------------------------------
Best, however:

View from the top
Sweet Home Alabama
Analyze That

I hope there are no Scots on the board reading your post, or they'd be quite upset!

Mel Gibson was a Scot slaughtering the English in that movie!

Richard28, you're thinking of "Braveheart." But I can understand the confusion, since Mel Gibson seems to have made a career of slaughtering the English on film.  Smile

I remember seeing "The Final Countdown" on several UA flights between HNL and SFO in 1979/1980. Good flick!

All time worst? "Down with Love" with Renee Zellweger on a SEA-IAD flight last August. At least I had Ch. 9 as my savior.

Ironic? Also SEA-IAD...I was on my way to NYC in Oct. 2001 to see the Mariners/Yankees in the ALCS. The movie was *61, which was about the Yankees... Roger Maris vs. the other guy I can't think of right now  Nuts

Never did see "Airport 75" or "Airport 77" while flying on a 747, wonder why...

And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

On a flight from EWR to DEN, I remember them showing "Speed". Good movie, just an odd pick for an in-flight movie. I also remember flights from DEN to IAD that featured "Dante's Peak" and "Lake Placid". On a flight from IAD to DEN, I remember "Wild Wild West" once. There were probably more people on that plane then who saw it in theatres  Laugh out loud.
