NW New Service

I've been happy to see many new service announcements by different airlines recently. We went through that slump after 9/11 through 2002 and early 2003 with very, very few new service least by the big six. Now that things seem to have shaken out and the red ink mostly stopped we are seeing these again. NW specifically has announced quite a few new routes recently, MEM-McAllen, TX, MSP-LIT, MSP-SAV, DTW-SLC and a few others I can't remember. It hasn't been announced yet but in checking future schedules on Travelocity, I noticed that NW has 2 new scheduled nonstops from BHM-MSP on CRJ's beginning April 21st. I'm assuming NW will have an official announcement on this soon. In addition BHM is getting an additional nonstop to DTW for a total of four with three being DC9. With 3 flights to MEM, 4 to DTW and 2 to MSP, doesn't that decrease the load factor on some of the other flights. Say with these new 100 seats per day to MSP, people begin to use this service and connect to places like MKE, MSN, GRR, ORD, etc. through MSP instead of DTW or MEM. I'm assuming that the loads are enough to justify this new service. It just seems there is a lot of overlap in the geographic location of BHM and the flights to NW three hubs. Any experts out there understand the planning of this route structure?

Still waiting for the official announcement on PDX-NRT service, which may begin mid-year.

Yes, it is after DL was used nonstop from PDX-NRT flight before Apr 2001 and but, it was dropped and that was switch to new route from JFK-NRT flight. that is day before of pre-9/11 and these are no longer flies out of JFK-NRT anymore.

About 1 year ago, NWA was planning to come to MAD with a DC-10, but the operation never materialized.

is there anything new about this? I wish i could see a DC-10 in the new color scheme.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Notice a lot of the new stuff overflies what used to be via MEM. It could be said that MEM is being downsized with an abreviated "directional" hub system that is "supposed" to reduce the need of so much manpower (read longer connection times for non directional pax). It did not work the first time and we will watch what happens this time.
Less sarcasm and more thought equal better understanding
