Olympic's New Routes To Boston And Toronto

Sat Jan 15, 2000 8:17 am

I have read in several different magazines that Olympic Airways will start 5 times weekly services into Manchester (UK) this Summer. What is more interesting is that they will be operated by A340-300s and will contiunue on to Boston 2 days a week and Toronto 3 days a week.

From an article I read in Airliner World Olynpic already has the route rights ATH-MAN-BOS and is negotiating the ATH-MAN-YYZ rights.

This is an interesting developement, Mancester currently has no service to either BOS or ATH, while YYZ is served daily by Air Canada 767s. We also don't see regular A340s anymore, Virgin fly 747s and Air Mauritius now fly a 767 non-stop instead of an A340 via CDG.

My question is, are the US/Canadian flights adding to current frequencies, or are they in effect adding a stop at Manchester onto existing non-stop flights to/from Athens.

Has anyone flown Olympic? Their new A340s look nice on their website, having PTVs at every seat!

Thaks for any info!

Techincally, OA already flies to BOS, from/to ATH via JFK. The flights operate on Wed and Sat, using A340's. Due to the short winter days, I haven't seen the A340, but I know they switched over on Nov 11.
The new routes, I think will be an addition to the two already, or maybe a replacement. Either way, I was surprised to read it in Airliners World.

I was under the impression that Olympic already served YYZ, and BOS. Is this a replacement service, or an increase?

Yes Olympic already serves YYZ but through YUL not MAN. They fly here 2X a week mostly with B742's.

From what's been said above, it seems that the BOS/YYZ-MAN-ATH flights will be in addition to Olympic's current operations. Since they only serve BOS and YYZ twice weekly, these flights should give Olympic more competitive frequencies.

I hope the flights are a success.

Thanks for your help!
