What's BA Doing W/ Concorde Gates

Sun Jan 04, 2004 1:35 pm

I recently saw pictures of BA's Concorde lounges and wondered what they will do with them?

I have been to LHR many times and I always thought that the concorde used to standard jetway. I have seen pictures where there is a concorde in between two BA 744's. If there is such thing as actual concorde jetways that cannot be used by any other a/c thet will most likley be replaced with the standard single head jetway or maybe the double head jetway for heavies??

I believe the Concorde did use normal jetways, but they had specific ones with special lounges and all the whistles for flying the concorde.

You board concorde from the lounge. You walk through double glazed doors and then go downstairs into a little reception area where you go through some mild security and then continue onto the aircraft using a jetway.

So the real question is what is BA doing with the Concorde lounge and facilities? I do not think that Concorde used the same jetways as the other aircraft @ T4...

Also, what is BA goingto to with the dedicated Condorde check-in counters? I was at LHT T-4 in November, and theywere empty. They still had all of the Concorde signage,

Hey

at JFK the Concorde gate was between to America West gates. America West has four gates at terminal 7. I heard that they where going to leave the concorde check in counter as a memorial and have pictures of the concorde at the counter. I also heard that they where converting the concorde lounge into a Britsh Airways First/Buesniss lounge and that America West is buying the Conorde gate to add another flight from Phoniex.

Concorde used a normal gate at Heathrow Terminal 4. When boarding from the Concorde Room lounge you went through the special doors marked "Concorde" and then down a set of stairs to the normal gate and onto the aircraft. The gate was often used by other aircraft - you could access it from the main part of the terminal as well as the lounge.

The Concorde Room is being used by British Airways FIRST passengers and Executive Club gold members.

FIRST and Concorde shared a check-in area at Heathrow, so it's now just for FIRST. The Concorde sign will probably be taken down eventually.

The original Stand was V14. It was then prefixed with a 4 indicating Terminal number (in keeping with development of T5).

The stand has now been re-numbered 421, with 414 at the eastern end of T4, on the Victor cul-de-sac.
