I do remember this system, as my brother's company in L.A. was hired to promote the system on America West, back in the early 90's actually. The system was called FlightLink, and was installed in every seat of America West a/c. My brother's company was hired, they had 50 employees flying around on HP
a/c every day, and the employees would get up during the flight, and introduce the system to pax. I loved it, a lot of things were free on the system, your flight map was free, so you could watch your flight the entire trip, the best part of the system, was that, it would show your arrival time into, let's say PHX
, it would show your arrival gate, and then, you could scroll through a page of connections, pick your connection, it would then tell you your connecting gate, and then an image would pop up showing you your walk from your arrival gate, to your connecting gate. All before you even landed in PHX
, it was awesome. This service was free, but not used enough, because as mentioned, most people thought you had to swipe your card to get into the systme. This was, if anybody remembers, also back in the day that America West use to have movies on their 737-300 a/c.
