Getting To BHD From BFS?

Mon Jan 05, 2004 5:02 am

Is there a regular bus service between BFS and BHD? How could I reach BHD from BFS (and vice-versa), bar using a taxi?

Only was as far as I know using public transport, is to take the Airbus service (£5 single, £8 return) from Belfast International to the city centre, leving every thirty minutes. I think it goes to Great Victoria Street station, where there are trains (not very frequent) to the station facing BHD, and I think there is also a bus service but I do not know much about it. Check www.translink.co.uk for details.

Cheers for your help, BFS.  Smile I guess it'd be much easier just to fly into BHD from MAN, but it'll cost £40+ more than flying LPL-BFS-LPL with U2. :| Ah well. Cheers again, mate!

Taking the train to BHD is a pain - the station is nowhere near as close to the new terminal as it was to the old one.

Easiest way: take the Airlink bus from BFS to Europa Buscentre, then pick up the City Airport Airlink bus from there. The BHD bus is every half-hour, £2 single.

Me, I'll often pay the extra to use BHD, though - much nicer airport than the International, IMO.

Thanks for your reply, M.

"I'll often pay the extra to use BHD."

I would, too, but not when I can get a LPL-BFS-LPL for £25 incl. tax and the cheapest workable day return into BHD (routing MAN-BHD-MAN) for £60+.

I personally quite like BFS - especially its observation deck.

I don't think the observation deck is open any more - certainly it was shut last time I was there (mid-December). Probably because us airplane nuts spoil the view from their new business lounge.  Smile There's a new airside food court that overlooks the runway / stand area, though, which is great if you're flying.

"don't think the observation deck is open any more."

Where? It was open at BFS on 16th Dec., 2003.

It was the 11th I travelled through on - I guess it must have been a temporary closure...

Ah, I see. Well, it's not bad for views of the ramp on which scheduled (and presumably charter) airlines park, but, annoyingly, you can't see the cargo apron. However, I saw (from the obs deck) a TNT ABF to the far left of the main ramp, which might often be parked there. Ah well - nothing's perfect.
