What Would You Like To See On The A380?

Mon Jan 05, 2004 12:54 pm

There are so much speculations about what the airlines will do with their A380 in terms of passengers amenities.
Looking at the first class cabin of the new Emirates A345 we should expect something grand for their premium customers.
But will airlines do something to their Economy pax at all?
Will VG do something innovative as Mr Branson always try?
What I really believe is that it will be only seats, seats and more seats!!!
What's your opinion about it?

I think you meant VS?

I agree with you. I think seats will take up the majority of the cabin. Airlines such as Emirates and Virgin Atlantic Airways, I'm sure will have something special for their premium passengers such as a bar or lounge.

I can't wait for it!

I don't care who does it, in fact I hope that all operators of the 380 will do it, but a seperate "family friendly" area seperated from the rest of the a/c by bulkheads would be nice. Offer different IFE, family sized restrooms, etc. It would probably longhaul a lot more bearable for both families with children and those pax without.

Two words: hot tub. Shagadelic!

Just kidding! I would like to see some books, like a small library, but I realize that would be too heavy.

I know you're NOT going to see the health clubs, squash courts, and swimming pools that Airbus marketed originally.

How about a seperate family area so the kids don't piss me off?!?! That would be a great idea... Also, have 4 classes instead of 3 First 1-2-1, business 2-2-2
Economy++ 3-3-3, and Economy 4-4-4 (I'm assuming these would be the standard seating arrangements). A bar would be nice, however, it wouldn't work that well as you can't really stand up...
Larger bathrooms for the mile high club ( Big thumbs up).

i'd love to see the exercise rooms, shopping centers, and movie theaters (and the likes) airbus advertised. however, we all know that the big bus will just be packed with as many revenue creating passengers as possible. not that this is a bad thing, but i do prefer smaller planes, with a more intimate feel.

Well my guess is alot of airlines its gunna be same old thing... wings and a tail attached to a metal tube with seats in it.... But it would be nice if they had a seperate cabin for those traveling with small children so the whole a/c dont have to listen to the kids go crazy over every little thing, and a little more legroom and slightly wider seats never hurt anyone....

CanadianNorth: now that is a good idea. not only would it benefit the rest of the cabin, but it could provide a little entertainment for the kids, allowing the parents to relax a bit. perhaps the airlines could staff the area with a child supervisor or something.

All I want is a little more pitch, a little wider seat and a little more legroom. I do not need bars, pools, etc.

The family friendly area is nice, but are there that many families flying long haul, I have not experienced that.

That's great that everybody think about it.
Would be a great idea to have this family area separated. Children on a long haul flight can be a menace.
I really like children myself as I worked with them before. But I don't like the screaming at my ear in a place where I cannot get out.

I like the idea of the strip club too...We have already Hooters, don't we???

Unfortunately, the time of large and spacious cabins, fancy bars, rest areas, smiling pax and relaxed travelers seems to be over. Today what we see is more something like hustled and stressed pax that are irritated and upset by the time they pass through security. I doubt that the close future looks any different. Whoever is imagining the A380 to be an aircraft with lots of leg room and comfy seats will be disappointed.

I'd like to see empty seats on the A380 and then maybe, their passengers won't be clogging up arrival halls, baggage carousels and customs desks all in one huge rush of people. When Airbus and the Airlines realise their paying customers want point to point travel and ease of operating around terminals, then maybe reality will prevail. I love the concept of the 7E7

Thanks Garnetpalmetto!!

It was just a remark of how far we can go. What I was trying to say is that if Hooters Bar get their beauties serving us on planes, why shouldn't Stringfellows do the same.
It was basic a joke!! I don't think we will see that coming on regular schedule despite our profound desire to see it happening!!

I would definitely want to see bigger seats in economy. A little more leg room and more recline. Also maybe an open sort of lounge with a couple couch type seats where you can stretch your legs and look out the window if you didn't have a window seat. As if that'll ever happen Yeah sure

If Emirates' new 345 First product is an indication, we might well see some private cabins up front.

I think, none of these features will ever come true!

The airlines will put in as many seats as possible! They sure will try to make some improvements in all classes of service, but that´s about it!!!

Well It would be very nice if they make economy class an executive economy such as Singapore Airlines newest A340-500 and also make It VERYYY different up in first class, lets see.....hot tub would be nice but turbulence wont help it, so.....how about making a first class living room with big large sofas and very big widescreen tv´s home cinema, a few Pc´s with internet... things like that.

Here's what I want on the A380-800:

34" pitch Economy class
50" pitch Business class
60" pitch First class

Gee, that almost sounds like the configuration for SQ's A388 seating chart.  Smile

I think it will take a long time to something like this happens. There is too much politics involved. Before you see that, Boeing would come with a stretched 747.

A small executive suite on the upper deck, with a single or two foldable beds, a private shower, bar, fridge, closet, TV, swivel seats, I guess it would be the interior a small business jet fitted into the plane, literally.
.....up there with the best!

:D Beside the pilots and f/a's...... Malls, restaurants, swimming pools, sauna's, tennis- and squash courts, bowling centers, snooker centers, a climb wall (maybe in the tail), discotheque, track court, nightclubs, bars, internet café's, fitness centers, lounges, cinemas, special hatch for terrorists (also for the jokers who say they are), ......did I forget anything?
With all this you never want to get of the plane at your destination.

I distinctly remember reading literature published by Boeing when the 747 was in development - talk about "bars in the sky" and downstairs lounges, conference tables, lavish accommodations, etc.

Although I commend many present-day airlines for providing extremely sumptuous first-class service (mini-suites, fully-reclining seats, etc.), what really has happened since Jan. 1970 when PanAm first flew the Jumbo is that now airlines are trying to figure out just how many revenue-generating seats they can fit into a plane.

Although Airbus will likely give the same presentation with the A380 that Boeing did with the 747, I suspect that all we'll really see in 10 years or so is another PEOPLExpress cramming 700 pax into one. Forgive me for sounding pessimistic, it's just what I've observed over the past 30 years.
The only time an aircraft has too much fuel is when it is on fire.

That's exactly what's going to happens, I should say...
It's true that we are in a time where the Airlines are doing what they can in terms of luxury for the premium pax. And I think we might get a bit of surprises when the 380 come to revenue service..
