Your 2004 "Must Try To Fly" Airliner(s) List

Tue Jan 06, 2004 12:52 am

What airliner(s) are on your mind that you will try to fly in 2004?

I'm trying to fly on a 717 for the first time. Also, another, or several, UA 744(s) is on my list as well. . . . .and possibly longhaul at that.

I will definetely try to fly on a 747 at some point this year. It is the only Boeing plane (excluding the 707) that has eluded me thus far. I don't care which airline, and I don't care which route, I just have to get on that plane.

this time next year:

717
747 (any version)
777
A330
A340

In 2004 I want to try to fly on Saha Air Iran 707s, if I go to Asia again I'd like to get on the Tristar of Orient Thai, a YS-11 of Phuket Air and the 777-300 of any of the majors there, and in Indonesia the Bali Air BAe 748, some 727s and F-28s.
In South Africa, I'd like to get on Nationwides BAC 1-11 or 727-100 and on a sightseeing flight on a Convair 440 or DC-4. If I visit my family in Nigeria, I'd try to get on a few domestic 727s and 737-200s. In Peru I'd try to get on a 727-100 and maybe the Fairchild 27 or Fokker 28 as well.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I just came back from a FRA-DUS flight, operated by the CR7, this was my third try to get a flight on this plane and finally I got it (trip report follows later). In five days I will fly CDG-DUS on the 318, two new aircraft types within one week are a good way to start the new year  Big thumbs up.

January of 2003 I had my first 744 flight with UA LAX-DEN. . .there was so much rudder play during takeoff, we were all being tossed side to side like ragdolls! Loved every second of that flight, and just plain love the 747. If you can get a chance to fly on a 747. . .by all means, you've got to go for it.

On my wish-list for a long time:

Fokker 70
Boeing 747
Boeing 777

Luckily I managed to fly on the MD-11 last year, but I'm afraid this list will be the same next year since I'm a poor student  Sad

I've never flown in a 330, so I'll see what I can do when planning my travel this year. As a loyal Star Alliance flyer, I might be able to do a BMI or Austrian flight from Dulles (IAD), or something on US Airways from Philadelphia or Pittsburg. We'll see. Not too many 330 options, if any, from my other home in San Diego.

Safe and happy flying to all this year!

I hope I´ll fly on the A321 for the first time on my LHR-FRA flight in February. It´s weird, I´ve flown on LH very very often but never got to fly on the A321. Whenever I was scheduled to fly on it, they substituted it by some other plane  Pissed .

I would also love to fly on a Dc-10 and an MD-11 next year but that seems to get harder and harder...

9V-SPF - I agree, I have wanted to fly on a DC-10, MD-11 or Tri-Star but it just keeps getting harder. Now that My Travel only have one DC-10 in service it's even worse. Their the planes that I want to fly this year and the Airline is WN (Still).

I'm hoping to get on a IL-96 (Aeroflot are allegedly using them to LHR on Summer Saturdays this year - just right for one of my regular business trips to Russia)

I'd also like to get on a 777-300, but that doesn't look likely - MEA-707's list sounds fantastic, wouldn't mind some of that (did the 727-100 and F28 in Peru this year though)

A last flight on a Swiss MD-11. Had so many good memories on that plane (especially during Swissair times), I would hate to see her go without one last chance to say goodbye.

Like DIA, I cheated this holiday season by getting my first 744 flight on a non long haul route, DEN-SFO, and it was wonderful. I have now flown on the 727, 737, 747, 757, and 777. So now, I would like to get on a 767 and 717. I'd also like to fly on a 340 so that I can actually participate in the 340 vs 777 wars.  Laugh out loud

My goal is to fly on a 767 (probably ATL-JAX), an A340 (hopefully I will get lucky and fly air jamaica's a340 from JFK-KIN), and a 747 or 777 (which i have never flown on). ANYTHING but a 737 or narrow body airbus. They are nice aircraft, but I really want to fly on the aircraft mentioned above, especially after reading all the comments on airliners.net.

I still haven't flown on the A310 (not likely), 330 (definitely looking forward to it) or 340 (ditto.) Oh, and the 318... but I'm in no hurry.

I'm scheduled to fly on the 777 for the first time on 7/3, from ORD to FRA on UA. Then again from LHR to ORD on 7/26.

However...since UA is putting 744's on more flights to LHR, it's a possibility that I'll get to ride on a 744 for the first time on 7/26. In addition, if I were somehow rerouted, etc. on the outbound flight from SEA on 7/3, I might end up on the LH flight from PDX to FRA on the A340, and that would be my first flight on a 340. Chance of that though are probably less than 50/50.
