New Service To EWR From Shannon

Tue Jan 06, 2004 9:47 pm

Irish newspapers today are reporting that SkyNet intend to commence service to EWR, daily, in the summer, using either 757 or 767 equipment from SNN.

Theory is to provide onward connections from Russia for SkyNet passengers.
SkyNet have 737's only at present.

EI dropped EWR completely post 9/11.
CO still serve it from DUB and SNN.

Wow!

A big step from only one current scheduled service. But would be a money spinner I'm sure. There was an article about SI starting services some time in the "future" to South America from SNN also as a transit point for Aeroflot passengers from Moscow and greater Russia.

How are Sknet’s current routes doing?

There was already talk of transatlantic service some months ago in an article on a Russian aviation website.

Yeah, this posted on www.hangar.no on December 19th 2003 required my best Norwegian to dicipher service to "commence" May 15th...

They applied for US DOT authority in early December with a proposal of operating a 767-300ER on the route.

Interesting news....but SI have had some serious problems operating an on time schedule on the SNN-AMS-SVO route. They are going to need to clean up their act to make this a go...

I wish them good luck on the new route!

Is there a lot of demand from the Shannon/Limerick region to EWR or from EWR to SNN? Probably a lot of Americans are coming to visit their relatives in Ireland but are they able to fill the plane. I think they need to attract a lot of o&d traffic because I don't see people travelling from Moscow to EWR on Skynet simply because they stop in Amsterdam and then Shannon while there are direct flights from Russia to EWR...

Wow a 757 must be cool looking in the Skynet livery...  Smile

Does anyone know if there is a press release for this in English yet? Also, any idea of start date and departure & arrival times, etc.

From the East Coast the only direct flights to Russia are from JFK on Aeroflot or Delta. Skynet is an Aeroflot subsidiary, probably designed to avoid Russian import tax on foreign airliners. It'd be cool if they can pull it off. I have only been on one roundtrip on Skynet (SVO-AMS-SVO) and the service was good. Plus, this route would integrate into the Aeroflot Bonus program and maybe into Skyteam in the future....

I imagine the current timetable will be amended as the flight from Moscow to Shannon arrives at almost 11pm a bit late for a transatlantic flight. The aircraft would also not be back in time for the departure next morning in SNN to SVO at 0920. SNN-SVO direct I presume. The SNN-AMS flight is now x3 weekly Feb/Mar.
