Delta Flight From Paris With Military Escort.

Wed Jan 07, 2004 4:26 am

News just coming in that a Delta flight 43 from Paris to CVG is being escorted by figher jets due to a suspected terrorist on board. Let me know if any details are out.

Another misspelled last name? I am scared to hear one day that plane has been shut down by mistake because someone thought it was hijacked.

I'm glad it's a DL flight being escorted, at least to quiet all of the anti-US collective that the military is only targeting foreign carriers.

Why let the flight continue? Why not divert it to Gandor or something like that? Seems a little strange that they'd let it proceed.

It was because a chick got on the plane with a biker jacket (wires in the lining to seve as an electric blanket). She was later taken off. Now this is overreaction IMO.

(Edit: If there was no fighter escort then it wasn't an overreaction on the part of the U.S. authorities, rather the media IMO.)

Exaclty Flashmeister - if they think there is terrorist onboard the plane should be forced to land immediately. If not - why to escort it?

If this keeps up no one will want to go to the states for a visit. Lots of other places to go in the World that are safe and you don't have to fly in with a fighter escort

CNN's not reporting anything about a "biker jacket" rather that she had wires on her person and was attempting to conceal the wires. The French decided to let the flight go on, now the flight is being rescreened to investigate for potential accomplices.

Update...it's DL Flight 43 and the biker jacket might be correct after all..CNN now reporting that the French determined she was of no concern and allowed her to rebook to a later flight and that right now there's noone of particular is of concern but that the rescreening is occuring due to an "abundence of caution"

But then again, if planes are once again used as weapons against the U.S. people then no one will want to visit the U.S. It's lose lose, but in the name of safety. I suppose it's gonna take some time and patience for the U.S. to get a handle on moderation.

Why is it the US that everyone wants to attack. Their are 150 other country's out their. The Brits have helped the states out, and people don't get on a plane and wonder what if.

I was watching MSNBC when one of their guys, Mickelshosky-whatever, went over that. But he did say it was essentially an electric jacket that bikers wear to keep warm, he could be wrong but that is what he went into detail on.

No fighter escort - initial reports were incorrect. The woman was removed in Paris. If there was a credible threat onboard, I'm sure it would have landed at Gander or somewhere in the area.

This place has been mostly "blame the US" for the last year for every air inconvenience. Let's blame the cause instead - the terrorists of the world. It appears that this flight was dealt with properly.

Think about it for a moment.

Suspected terrorist aboard? Nothing else going on? Let it proceed but be ready to prevent actual terrorist acts. No point in disrupting everyone's plans for suspicion alone. When you get there, take the suspicious persons into custody and find out what you need to know.

Hijacking in progress? By all means, get that thing on the ground and turn it into a static display. Lots more options now for survivors.

But just divert to Gander? Have you ever been to Gander? Why should poor Gander have to deal with this sort of thing twice a week? What have those good folks ever done to us?

Simple diverts for weather, even to on-line cities produce all kinds of problems for passengers and airlines alike. Diverting does not solve the problem. What are you going to do with the situation when it arrives? How?

Fox news saying the same about the jacket...

AmbiantAir

that was fun to watch America "screwin" with people like Saddam and Usama, wasn't it. Good thing they were "screwin" with them and had no real purpose in doing so...

Except for the Moron who decids to wear a jacket with wires sticking out of it...Did they think that would raise a few flags somewhere?

Who was screening in Paris? The TSA? Nope: "A Homeland Security official told Fox News that French officials were concerned about the passenger and they detained her, not allowing her to board the plane."

A heated coat. Now some one tell me What in the Blue ^%$! do you need with that on an arplane!? Where are you gonna plug it in the Lavatory? and because it plugs in on a Harley for heat the wirers were contrued for something else.

That passenger with thier electric coat should be put in the Cargo hold with the pets.

It wasn't very fun for the people in Honduras, Chile, Grenada, Phillipines, Cuba, Palestine, Beirut, Lebanon, Panama, etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad we capped the scuzzbuckets. But remember we kept them there. We were just cleaning house.

EDIT: In any case wrong place for this discussion. If anyone wants to PM me or email thats fine.

False reports, overreactions

Overreactions? What would you rather have occur - the woman yanked from the flight and the rest of the flight rescreened as a "CYA" move or the French allow the women to get on the flight and hope and pray that the wires weren't anything important and that she doesn't have an accomplice onboard the flight to turn it into a flying bomb?

Question: Just suppose that there was a "suspected terrorist" on board, what does a fighter jet escort over the Atlantic accomplish? Window dressing for US media

Considering the current "vagina" thread, can I ask what the wires were connected to?

Would bring new meaning to the term "in-flight entertainment."
