Mesaba Any News

Thu Jan 08, 2004 3:39 am

The press wires are dead on this subject and I have a flight on mesaba on sunday? Anyone got anything on how things are going with them? 98% vote to strike was pretty amazing.
I will miss the arj's I went out of my way to book on them for the flight home (to geg of course)

Greetings GEG2RAP:

Official press news in Northern MN about the possible XJ strike has been nil. Operations are currently normal...I just heard XJ3047 Saab 340 B+ (N439XJ) depart for MSP. However, a colleague in town has mentioned NWA has contacted his charter bus company for transports beginning Saturday the 10th for service between BJI<>BRD<>STC<>MSP.

Keep me posted if you hear any updates.

The 98% strike vote wasn't uncommon. At the time it was taken, they had not been released to strike. It was easy to support when it wasn't a reality. While I'm sure there's still a majority willing to strike, I'll bet some of those pilots who voted for it are a little more nervous this week. I'm sure that their management is as well.

I had heard the same thing buses from watertown and aberdeen down to FSD to fly out was the plan I will get rebooked on another flight but feel sorry for the people that had to go buses, do they get frequent flier miles for it? I assume so

Negotations are going on this week, that will hopefully??? result in a deal.
In the meantime, informational picketing occured yesterday at NW hub cities, DTW, MSP, and MEM.

Its Wed evening now........we'll have to wait and see what happens by Friday night.

I got to be back in Detroit Friday & Saturday, put it this way, I'm driving just to be safe so I don't get stuck there.

Basically they are in last minute negotiations right now. No one but those who are talking now if there is any progress. In the mean time there was a rally on Monday at the hubs and informational picketing going on. There is some work with ALPA going over what will be considered struck work if a strike does happen. There has been a lot of rumors and discussions at the airports as of late, but till Friday evening, no one really knows what will happen. Till then, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for my friends at Mesaba. Hopefully they get the contract they deserve after all these years of negotiating.

All concerned, here is the latest Minnesota news release regarding XJ and the strike deadline, 1:01am:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/535/4306856.html

The momentum seems that a strike is inevitable otherwise these prolonged XJ pilot negotiations would have been resolved months, if not years ago...I know the second most senior captain at XJ (flies the RJ85), and he was "planting strike potatoes" already this past August '03. That must mean something.

Good luck to all, on the Mesaba Motorcoaches!

Regards, Unn1011./

Rebook now while it is your choice and there are still seats to be had.
