LH A310: Where Do They Fly To?

Sat Jan 10, 2004 3:08 am

Hi!

I wanted to ask the experts on this forum if they can tell me on which routes Lufthansa uses its A310s. Mainly the international routes because I have some spare frequent flyer miles to spend and I wanted to get the chance to fly on the last (old) type in their fleet that I haven't been on.

Thanks a lot!

Dan

I know that FRA-ASB-BAK is an A 310 route, I wish you a lot of fun in Turkmenistan or Azerbaijan  Big thumbs up.

If you want to make sure you get one, you should fly
LH612/613 Frankfurt-Baku-Frankfurt (will switch over to A330/340 soon)
occasionally you get them on domestic runs like FRA-TXL/HAM/MUC but these are subject to change.
I think there is another destination that regularly sees the A310 - incase you are not too thrilled about Baku.
But let me tell you, if you have been on an A300 the 310 wont feel any different, nothing much to get excited about.
Btw, when is LH ridding itself of the 310s altogether?

Thanks a lot for the quick responses!
I can assure you that I will be going to Baku shortly!

Since it's a place I have never been to, it is very appealing.

Damn it Patrick beat me!  Big grin
Another destination is Almaty.
FRA ALA 0116-1100/0116-2240 LH 648 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S4 (310)
ALA FRA 0118-0415/0118-0625 LH 647 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 (310)

These three destinations arent the common tourist destinations but it might be interesting to have a look at actually. Dont know about obtaining visas and stuff though, plus dont fly Business because unless you get D-AIDN the seats will be Euro configuration and it would suck to burn miles on that. DN still has some old Business seats (really old, no PTV etc).

Don't forget LH's A310 service to Jeddah and Sana'a, operates Mo,We and Sa. Saudi Arabia and Yemen are always worth a visit...  Wink/being sarcastic

A bit closer to home, you might try Frankfurt-Venice. I don't know if this is still an A310 route, but it was last March...I was waiting to board my flight at FRA and was somewhat surprised to see an A310 was leaving for VCE from a nearby gate.

Dunno much about Azerbaijan, but the Economist magazine recently selected Turkmenistan as the worst country in the world, a (dis)honor formerly held by such garden spots as Afghanistan and Liberia. Among much else, the article noted that women are prohibited from emigrating unless they have given birth to at least three children, that being the minimum necessary to ensure Turkmenistan's growth.

FoxBravo, the 310 do sub for other aircraft occasionally if there is the demand or the aircraft originally assigned went tech/delayed etc.
Venice-FRA is normally an A321, or smaller.

If you're really planning to fly to Turkmenistan, you should ask Daniel  Smile (Airsicknessbag), I'm pretty sure he'll join you on that trip because I think that Turkmenistan is one of the few countries that is still missing on his been-to list.

Its is also used to Asmara in Eritrea, the A310 will be retired from LH's fleet in March, all non-European routes as follow, served by the type will get the A330-200 from then.

Frankfurt-Baku-Ashkabad
Frankfurt-Almaty
Frankfurt-Jeddah-Asmara

Sana'a in Yemen is served via Cairo with an A332.

I wish they'd keep them in service longer since I can't make it until March...
But I am glad to see that they are keeping the A332 in service since it's by far the best plane in their fleet!

I still think I will be going to Baku with my miles!

That´s grossly exaggerated, there are currently 142 countries which I have NOT visited  Wink/being sarcastic

BTW, it seems to be a real pain to enter Turkmenistan - for those reading German, have a look at the following link:

http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/www/de/laenderinfos/laender/laender_ausgabe_html?type_id=5&land_id=177

 Wow!  Wow!  Wow!

Turkmenistan Airlines used to offer cheap tix FRA-ASB-BKK, that might be the easiest way of visiting Turkmenistan.

Azerbaijan seems to be comparatively relaxed (for a CIS country, that is), with visa being processed at the airport:

http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/www/de/laenderinfos/laender/laender_ausgabe_html?type_id=5&land_id=11

>>>the A310 will be retired from LH's fleet in March, all non-European routes as follow, served by the type will get the A330-200 from then.

>>>But I am glad to see that they are keeping the A332 in service since it's by far the best plane in their fleet!

It was my understanding that the 332 was to leave the fleet as soon as the 333 were delivered - i.e. April. Somebody correct me please.

All in all, if you want to get a shot at the 310 (and if you don´t specifically need the combination LH/310), HF might be the cheapest and safest bet. Plus it´s more fun with the 3-3-3 layout  Laugh out loud

According to the Lufthansa website they are planning to fly the A332 until August (at least).
Turkmenistan does seem to be a real pain. Even worse than getting into Libya!
And that means something!

But I guess Azerbaijan will be the next "exotic" destination I will be going to after getting the beautiful country of San Marino (aviation unrelated) on my list on New Year's.

"These three destinations arent the common tourist destinations."

Precisely. As a very keen backpacker, I actively avoid such "common tourist destinations" in favour of the 'real' thing - i.e. culture and seeing, experiencing and learning all about the locals and the areas (which including one of my favourite things - religious architecture).

Turkmenistan essentially resembles a Gulf state without the money: it's sparsely populated and, although the second-largest country in Central Asia, four-fifths of it consists of an inhospitable desert (the Karakum) which conceils unexploited (at least for now) gas and oil deposits.

I am glad that my first posted topic has already totally left the aviation context!
 Big thumbs up

But I am glad that I did find out about the A310. I am sad that they are leaving the fleet so soon.

LH definitely flies three times weekly FRA-JED-SAH, operated by A310s. Asmara used to be served via Jeddah, now it is again served via Cairo (A332).
Just check the current Star Alliance timetable.

Check amadeus.net as well, which lists and has always listed JED-ASM.
