New Airline In South America

Sun Jan 11, 2004 5:19 am

Evidently, there's a new carrier in South America called Uair, based in Montevideo and flying to regional destinations in Argentina and Brasil. They work closely with TAM, from whom they obtained their fleet of 4 F-100s, and with whom they codeshare with on flights to Brasil.

Anybody else heard of them, and more importantly has anyone had a chance to fly with them?

Finally, something new in South America thats not tied to LAN.

U Air is a new carrier that has started operations between its MVD base and CWB, COR, MDZ and ASU. I'm not sure if it has already started flying on all this routes.

It's using ex -TAM F100 PT-MQD which is already in the Uruguayan register as CX-UAA.

Although the JJ/RG merger is everything but dead, they still codeshare on GRU-BUE and on GRU/GIG MVD there is virtually a monopoly of RG/PU. Once the merger is officialy dead, maybe there'll be some kind of cooperation between U-Air and TAM.

JJ started charter flights GRU - Aruba and GRU - HAV flying A332s non-stop, chances are the Havana flights will become regular.

I think that it is great for Uruguay, especialy given the fact that Pluna have been the sole competitor in that country for so long. wibder how Pluna will react to the competition. Although I do not see there been such a high demand for flights between COR-MVD, MDZ-MVD.
I would have opted for flight between MVD-AEP Or even between Punta del Este!
