How Are Duo Doing?

Mon Jan 12, 2004 4:18 am

Can anyone provide me with information about how Duo are doing since their restructuring from Maersk the BA subsidery. Particularly on their routes out of EDI. (loads etc.)
I heard I while ago that flights were getting cancelled due to insufficient passenger numbers.

You hear mixed roumors about duo some aircraft leaving with a norm of 5 to 7 pax which is really poor. they were suppose to be strugling a bit out of edi and things were suppose to be piking up a we bit out of bhx but this is just info i have heard of forms on the net so probely false. Go to www.glaair.co.uk and go to the link of GLA movements and in that site's form there is something about duo. check out the gla news group and you should be able get to the edi group from there but stay in the gla 1 better pps in there.

I had also heard that load factors on many of their routes ex-BHX had been poor. However, have heard pax reports that the service is excellent on-board and certainly worth paying "extra".
However also seen a lot of flight delays, not what the business man wants....

Hope that the load factors are improving, would be nice to see this "different" carrier flourish... Big thumbs up

Duo should just move to GLA and get some good load factors we need the direct links! hopefully globespans gonna deliver!

I think they should get an advertising campaign going because I'm not entirely sure that too many people know of their existance which, is obviusly going to be holding them back.
I've certainly not seen much advertising from them. Can anyone see furthur expansion from EDI or are they going to hold back while their current routes get established?

They will start filling aircraft first I think or start doing the dreade routing through bhx if they cant fill them. Should move to GLA but as they are competen with bigger more house hold names in the euro services from edi and gla better!

No, I think they should stay at EDI and they will come good. EDI is most certainly lacking in direct routes to EU and although they are ever increasing due to the likes of CSA, Duo has supplied us with 4 new direct European services(Oslo, Geneva, Milan and Zurich) . More of the same please !  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

No probs, not entirely sure if my account is active. Embarrassment
I think snowflake are starting services to INV!.
EDI is getting the all-the-frills SAS on ARN-EDI.
Swiss are, as far as I'm concerned a glaring ommision from EDI as are SN Brussels. Sabena used to operate to EDI but SN have never restarted it.
The rumours are certainly flying though, about new services from EDI. Particularly Transatlantic routes.

bmi do operate to BRU.
THat could work EDI with all the european destinations, GLA with long haul and a high speed rail link direct between the 2 airports for easy connections! Big grin

I find it unfair that PIK can be classed as a Glasgow airport, because it is anything but! PIK is about as close to Glasgow as RAF LEuchars is to EDinburgh!

i disagree pik is close enough to be considered gla its still in strathclyde ( greater Glasgow) and offers great services which we dint have in gla with a good tourism bost to the eco also. prefer it was all through GLA but and we would be at 10 million a year early.

Duo won an award recently, but also they have reduced their fares from Edinburgh in an effort to attract more customers. See below for a similar discussion a few weeks ago.

Cheers,
Jamie.

The demand for the flights from EDI is definetely there.
They have to advertise to get themselves known in EDI. All I have seen so far is an ad. on the side of a taxi which clearly reads duo but with the more important info in smaller print so most people are likely to miss it.

I'm sure there was a good reason for them to choose EDI over GLA.
Better airport of course!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Yeah the better reason being they are sub sideised by the edinburgh exectives route fund thats why they chose edi. as if you dint already no that but.

It's working though. EDI is getting all the 'classy' (SAS,CO,BA has more of a presence,Duo,Jetmagic) airlines while GLA is being left with charter airlines. The exception being EK.

Duo about to reveal 3 new destinations today from EDI: NCE (weekend), BHX (? daily) and MUC (2 daily).

"A spokesman said the proportion of seats filled had increased from just 25 per cent in November to some 40 per cent last month, and it expected the figure to increase to 45 per cent this month."

11.10 VB353 GENEVA DIVERTED

What's this all about.
Today 13/1 arrival. The only flight of the day diverted. Why?
Info from:

http://www.baa.com/main/airports/edinburgh/edinburgh_flight_information/flight_arrivals_frame.html

It also shows all their flights delayed!

they are not in Worldspan, and I dont know if they are in other Travel systems...They would probably have more loads if the were more accesible to travel agents.

More LCC's in the states have signed up to be in Worldspan, like Westjet, Canjet, Air 3000, etc.

Where did you hear that pile of turd?!
When was the last time GLA was in the news after announcing three new routes on the same day? You're just jealous !  Smile
Is the EK route daily?
