Which Is The Queen Of The Skies?

Tue Jan 13, 2004 8:55 pm

Which is the queen of the skies? The 707 because it was the first? The 747 cos it is the largest? The Concorde cos it was the fastest? The VC10 cos it had very graceful lines?Or the connie which is ever so popular?Or....
Why don't you nominate one?

The 747 is, and has been, the queen of the skies for many reasons.

I would also have to agree with the 747 being the Queen of the Skies, although we all know that she's not the largest anymore.

My vote goes for the 747 too! The title of Pricess of the skies goes then to A330?

For me it's got to be the 747, the unique shape, size, speed and power means it's in a class of it's own, it's a legend. This proud record will diminish though when the A380 rolls out.

It has to be Concorde. The only plane in the world that could do what she could do. People used to stop in the street to look up when she passed overhead or stop by the side of the runway. People don't do that for any other a/c.

Carrying hundreds of pax and flying at 550mph seems like easy sport.

Cheers
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

We've had a lot of votes for "queen".

What about "king"?

777 or A340 anyone?

Since Concorde stopped it's got to be the 747 - for the time being.

King of the skies? The B52?

Well, I think the 744 is the King of the Skies, the A340 (all types) is the Queen, I see the 777 as the Prince and the 330 as the Princess. A pretty well rounded royal family. I think CX has them all. Anybody else who has all these royals in their fleet?

The 747 will always be queen of the skies. Even after the A380 enters service, the 747 will still be queen. The A380 can be deemed Sumo of the sky.  Wink/being sarcastic

For me it is the A.340-600, I recently flew Virgin Atlantic from JFK to LHR and it is a real smoother, quieter, easy rider !! Have fun !!

IMO, it's better to be the Queen of the Sky rather than the Queen of the hangar! Many airlines have both  Laugh out loud

Undoubtably the 747, though A380 may change that.

Let's see what Airbus delivers.

There is only one Queen - and it is undisputed. The 747, now and forever.

The King - 747
The Queen - Concorde
The Prince - 777

A380 = ugly heifer

(I go to the "cow college" and I have the right to point out when something seems like it's going to look like a big ugly cow)

It's not the contrails, although they do look spectacular. It's the unique majestic beauty the 747 has, it's the biggest, heaviest fastest etc....  Smile

I believe, an airliner can't be named Queen of the skies unless it is well known to general public. So, here is the choice: Concorde and 747. They both were (and Concorde forever will be) "different", "one of a kind". Nothing else is going to join the club.

Queen of the skies? Absolutely it's the 747... We'll see what happens with the A380 some day in the future...

As for the King, I'll go with the original vote of the B-52. It's been in service more than 50 years and carries more weapons payload, flies farther, and is frankly a psychological weapon--a few squadrons of B-52s within four hours flight of any meaningful target is a powerful motivator--that few others can beat.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.
