Favorite Coach Configuration On 777s

Wed Jan 14, 2004 6:11 am

I was just wondering, what do you think about the possible 777 coach class

configs? Do you like 2-5-2, 3-3-3, or 2-4-3 better and why? I personally

prefer the 2-5-2 because the plane needs to be 93% full before any of the "E"

seats are occupied, and then no one is farther than a seat from the aisle. A

reason I do not like the 3-3-3 as much is that two seats (the A and J) are

more than one seat away from the aisle, and that is not comfortable, no

matter if you have a window next to you or not! (although a window is

definately a perk for all of us on a.net!)

PLEASE, no A vs. B wars... I just want to know what you think about this!!!

When traveling with my girlfriend I prefer 2-5-2, than we have a row for us allone, when traveling allone I don't mind (most important thing than is that I get an aisle seat).

Hi,

welcome to a.net (even though it's not your first post any more...  Big grin).

As long as I get the window seat, I really like 2-5-2 - but since there's always the chance to get the "E"-seat, I try to avoid airlines that do not let me select my seat in advance...

Since I've had more luck getting window seats on 2-5-2 than getting a decent seat on 3-3-3 (flew that config once, got a middle seat), 3-3-3 is not really my favourite...

And my favourite is: 2-4-3.

There's something for just about everyone, because most people (aside from those travelling alone) travel in groups of 2, 3 or 4 persons (or combinations of those).

Regards,
Frank

Frank: Which airlines have the 2-4-3 configuration in their 777's? Until now I only flew in 3-3-3 or 2-5-2 configurated planes.

Hi Patrick,

actually, I'm not absolutely sure (I was actually using my experience from the 2-4-3 config on SR's M11s): but if I recall correctly, EgyptAir has a 2-4-3 config in their 777s.

I think there are one or two others, but I'm not really sure...

I really like the three-class configuration on AA's 777s. Isn't that the 2-4-3 configuration, or 2-5-2. I only remember that in coach there were two seats per window, but I only remember there being four seats in the middle. Anyway, AA's configuration is really nice. I hear United's has been converted to a similar three-class on their flights over the Pacific and Atlantic. So I guess United and American really do have more room throughout coach.

Thanks Frank! Too bad I never flew on MS, I always wanted to try them by booking a package tour from DUS to HRG during the peak season to get my first 777 flight, but before I could realize it, I got my first 777 flight on BA (fortunately because MS' 777's are rare at DUS and I am sure that I had end up on an A 320 or A 321 because I always have bad luck with last minute equipment changes Big grin).

Doesnt matter to me because I always get a window on any flt Im on and most of the time when I non rev. 2-5-2,2-4-3,3-4-3 doesnt make a difference to me.

Patrick, I think they only send those birds on routes that end (or begin) outside of Germany...  Big grin

I've seen them at LHR and I know they fly to JFK and BKK - but Germany, no matter if FRA, DUS or MUC, will only see the A32S, A300 and the odd 735...

So you'd have to fly a longhaul on them... DUS-CAI-JFK - now wouldn't that make sense? Big grin

No, MS is quite often in DUS with one of their 777's, especially during holiday time, here is the evidence:

Oops - didn't know DUS had that much traffic to CAI, Patrick...

But, then again, with you on board it probably really would have been an A320... Big grin ... the probability of having an equipment-change when you're on board has been reported several times - so it's kinda legendary... Big grin

Yes, and lately I am sick and tired of equipment changes, my latest was last Saturday, instead of the A 318, fellow a.net member TriStar500 and me got a boring A 320 from CDG to DUS, the biggest brazenness was that it was exactly the same aircraft (F-GFKN) that we had on the DUS-CDG flight in the morning  Angry.

If any AF employee is reading this: Please feel free to contact me via the contact link in my profile and offer us a cockpit jumpseat flight on the A 318 for the next time  Big thumbs up  Big thumbs up

I think 2-4-3 config is the best because with this config couple and a family of 3 or 4 can all sit together. To me it just makes the most sense.
