King Of Hill Episode At DFW

Wed Jan 14, 2004 11:32 pm

Has anyone ever seen the King of the Hill Episode "Happy Hanksgiving"?

The Hills travel to DFW to take a flight to Billings for Thanksgiving leaving the busiest day of the year, the day before thanksgiving. Of course they hadn't bought the niece Luanne a ticket yet and have to pay $700 for it.

As they drive to DFW, they show an entrance to DFW with a sign showing the airlines serving it. It looked pretty accurate like it could be a sign for DFW. It had Korean Air and Japan Airlines on it.

I knew Korean once served DFW, but did Japan Airlines?

I don't know when this episode was made, but it was an older episode because it still had Nancy (Dale's wife) still cheating on Dale with the Indian guy John Redcorn.

Obviously this was before 9-11 because Hank brought a small tank of propane for the trip and didn't get jumped on by security.

They are about to get on their plane when the rain they are getting turns to sleet and the flight is delayed. Suddenly all of the departure signs change to delayed on the monitor. Somebody anonymously tells them that there is a TWA flight flying to Billings, but there isn't any. This must be one of the earlier episodes I am thinking.

They end up spending the night at DFW and get onboard another United flight to Billings (yeah it is funny, United flying DFW-Billings) Dale sneaks into the admirals club to smoke but gets kicked out, then tries to sneak into one of the cars on display to light up, but gets kicked out. The next thing that happens he walks out onto the ramp and gets locked out on the ramp.

Luanne the white trash niece gets upgraded to first class on the United flight and asks a flight attendant what the curtains are for. The flight attendant says it is to seperate first class from coach. Luanne asks for them to close the curtains because she doesn't want to see "those people".

Hank sits by the window on the flight and is watching the handlers load on the luggage, but sees them forget his box which has a turkey in it. They bring out the bomb squad and blow up the box with the turkey. They show the plane- it looks either like it could be a 737 or an A320 in United colors of grey and blue, but there is no emblem on the tail, just dark blue.

The pilot gets on the speaker and says because of the delay with the turkey they missed their window as more weather moved in and they have to get off their plane. Hank who has been remaining calm for the most part and trying to be helpful in the situation is turning into another irate passenger and demands that they get his family on another flight to Billings. The gate agent tells them that there is a flight to Billings out of Love Field. So they run to the shuttle which is full but they are able to squeeze on, but then another family comes to the bus and looks sad so they let them on.

In the end they end up eating thanksgiving dinner at DFW with Dale's family, Boomhaur, Khan and his family, and Bill with a left over pizza and some peanuts Boomhaur got from one of the flight attendants he was having a one night stand with.

I haven't seen that episode as I'm not a huge fan of that show but isn't it set in Garland, TX (or a town resembling Garland)? I figure they'd get around to DFW at some point on the show.

BTW, JAL used to serve DFW but was dropped after 9/11 and Korean still serves DFW 3x per week with 772s.

Isn't that a cartoon?

Why are you even concerned about it then..........

Sorry I moved from SXM, looking for a new house on Anguilla now!

Arlen Texas, its a made up town i thought in one episode they said they were 90 miles from Houston.

I wasn't concerned, i just thought it was a good episode (well most of the episodes are good I think) because it took place at the airport.

I thought they were pretty accurate in showing pics of DFW, its just the United thing that stumps me.

I've seen that episode and most episodes of "King of the Hill."

If you're from Texas, you'll find the show EXTREMELY accurate in capturing aspects of life in Texas. From the dead-on depiction of DFW to Hank's scornful branding of North Texas as "South Oklahoma", to the family's starry-eyed visits to Dallas and Houston, it's all very accurate.

I love the episode where a quarter of an inch of sleet falls and everything comes to a screeching halt (very true-to-life; try being at DFW at one of those moments!). Also, the trashy niece's name - Luanne Platter - is priceless. Luby's Cafeteria never got so much good publicity.

Bartond is right - Arlen is based on the Dallas suburb of Garland, although Arlen is supposed to be located in Central Texas, closer to Houston and Austin.
