Shuttle America

I spent the first 18 years of my life in State College, PA, and am now a student at the University of Colorado. Shuttle America has recently begun service to SCE/UNV. I have heard terrible things about them, and was wondering are they really so bad, or should I avoid them at all costs? I've enjoyed flying Allegheny, Chatauqua, and CCAir in US Airways Express in the past.

This past summer I was on a USX flight opd by Shuttle America (PIT-TTN-PIT Saab 340) and haven't one bad thing to say about them. The flight crews both ways were more than accommodating, courteous and helpful. The pilot even delayed boarding on the way to TTN because he felt that the plane was too hot inside for us to get on, so he wanted to let the a/c run. The check-in/gate folks at TTN were quick, efficient and kept us more informed than I've ever been before.

Overall, I couldn't complain a bit. Too bad not all carriers seem to care that much.

United 717 heavy, you're facing the wrong way. Any chance you can powerback to get off of my deice pad?

As of the first week in January, Shuttle America replaced some of the Allegheny operated flights to/from SCE to PIT and PHL. In all honestly, they are a decent regional. It is kind of crappy that they replaced Allegheny who has been operating these routes since their start, and the fact that Allegheny has a pilot's base in State College. ALG still handles ground operations here.

2 of the 5 SCE-PIT flights are still operated by ALG, and 3 of the 4 SCE-PHL are ALG too.

Shuttle America did have that mishap last week, as I posted before where a flight from PIT landed in Philipsburg/Mid-State instead of SCE. Then they had to bus the passengers to SCE and ferry the plane empty for the 7 mile flight. A flight crew that had never flown in here, no doubt. They aren't as reliable as ALG, and their crews make significantly less pay. They operate Saab 340's which are a good turboprop aircraft. They operate the older A-models which only hold 30 passengers. Rumor was that SCE was going to start seeing RJ's from PHL, but that has yet to happen. Don't know if PSA will start flying some here or not.

I wouldn't avoid them, I would fly them if I needed to. Of course we all prefer ALG, but you have to deal with whatever US wants to do. Too bad they are sending ALG, along with Piedmont, down the crapper. In fact, as of today, they want to merge ALG into PDT to make them the sole operator of the rapidly dwindling Dash-8 fleet.
