The Last Flight You Took.

Thu Jan 15, 2004 9:42 am

Hello all and Happy New Year!

I am just currious as to when your last flight was. Be it non-rev or full fare.
Also, what was one thing that stood out in your mind that impressed you. Be it a terminal, res agent, online website (booking, check in, ect.) ticket/gate agent, aircraft itself, flight attendant. Whatever made you go . Hhhmm. That is pretty neat. Thanks for your replies. Much appriciated.

I spent the week between Christmas and New Year's at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I flew USA 3000 Airlines as part of a package deal through Apple Vacations.

I flew this bird on the way down (PHL-PUJ)

Service was very good. Despite the somewhat high-density seating (168), they were very comfortable planes. My only complaint was that they were stingy on the food. Flight deck visits on the ground, however, made up for that. Many A.net posters seem to dislike the A320; I personally like the plane a lot, finding it very comfortable to fly on.

I personally recommend both the airline and the destination!

I flew from Zurich to Montreal on Swiss a week ago.

I was highly unimpressed by the entire flight. These guys sure as hell aren't the old Swissair.

ORD-MAD-DUS on Iberia.

This was for sure the last time I took IB on an intercontinental flight.
The fourth time, the fourth HORRIBLE experience.
In Europe they are okay though.

ATH-VIE-ARN

On the 6th of January this year.

The new Athens airport is beautiful and so are OS's A321s with the drop down LCD screens and the service, but I was rather unimpressed by the awful food, the long delay in Vienna (three hours) and the Fokker 70 up to ARN.

Round Trip on UA from ATL to ORD. It was a full fare I got from the Internet.
The plane was an AIRBUS 320 1 way and a 737-300 coming back. I like the little drop down TVs they had.

quite a trip... AA was alright i sort of expected more, but it was still good dont get me wrong. Lan Chile to Punta Arenas was simply amazing. ex-Austral MD-81 sucked. it was the most cramped flight ive been on. Service was better than US airlines, but i am not even 6 feet tall and this is the first time my knees hit the seat in front of mine. 737-200 of Aerolineas Argentinas, maybe ex-Austral as well was one of the best planes i have been on with ample leg room. two extremes on one airline, so i dont know what to think of it. Aeroparque is a cool airport, so is Ezeiza.

my next flights are not as exciting though

12.26.03 AM014 MEX-GRU 767-200
01.04.04 AM015 GRU-MEX 767-200

Service was very good, IFE was not so good (no PTV's and I did not have a good angle to the screen in the outbound flight because my seat was 8J). Food was better than what you would probably get in a flight of the same duration with a U.S. carrier. The aircraft were generally in very good shape. Boarding in MEX went on very smoothly, as the plane was less than 65% full, and we left the gate on time. Boarding in GRU was terrible because the line for migratory control was long and very, very slow. The last passengers to board made it to their seats a few minutes after the scheduled time for departure.

What impressed me the most was the AM person at GRU who checked in my bags and gave me my boarding pass. Not only was she lovely, but also really, really nice. I met her again after I went through the X-ray machine and she indicated the way to the gate with a beautiful smile on her face. Btw, she called me by my name. I don't know if she just does her job like that all the time or if she is really good remembering names, but she was really nice. I think I am in love with her. Although we made some conversation in Portuñol while I was checking my bags in, I very stupidly did not ask her name and didn't even look at her nametag. I hope I see her again some day (perhaps I should start a thread trying to find her) because she was an angel.

CLT-MIA-CLT the weekend after Christmas and before New Year's. The flight back to CLT was very good in terms of service. The aircraft was an MD80.
I guess what stood out the most for me was the First Officer on that flight...he was a very cool guy and very friendly. He took a few minutes and talked with me when I told him I am an aspiring airline pilot.

The only thing I didn't like about this flight was that an infant did a number two in her pants, and the mom did not bother to go to the bathroom and change her diaper. The smell was not very nice from about Savannah to CLT.

My last flight was from Philadelphia to Ottawa on January 2nd. It was on a US Airways Express DO 328, probably the most uncomfortable A/C I've ever been on. I recognise the fact that I am taller than the average person, but I would've had to have been about 5'5" to be comfortable with the seat pitch. Thankfully the flight was only half full so everyone had room to stretch out. I cannot imagine what I would've done if they flight had been full.

OKC-IAH-CDG-OKC Jan 8-11. Completely FULL flights on all sectors. Fastest flight I've ever had as well on the IAH-CDG. Made it there in under 8 hours. 730-750 MPH ground speed at times. AMAZING! This was on the 777-200ER of CO.

JUst your average charter flight. Food not particularly good, cramped etc.

The view out the window made up for it though. The most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen! Could be compared to this one:

The extremely boring RNO-LAS-RNO flight on WN. I think they take off, look down to find the Interstate, and fly that sucker right along it until they see Vegas and then just kinda park. But I would much rather be up there looking down than on the ground doing that drive from hell and looking up wishing i was on a plane. This was 12/23-12/29 I believe.... horrid landing in LAS- nasty amounts of turbulence, but the landing in RNO was one for the books- THAT was grim.

Next flight up I believe is CO RNO-IAH-EWR and then short side trip VS EWR-LHR sometime in March! THAT should be much more exciting! Big grin

AS Flt 93 LAX-SEA-ANC B737-400. I was the ONLY person who continued through SEA. Even the flight attendants changed planes.

AS Flt 97 ANC-FAI B737-200 Combi. Got to fly on my favorite plane. Delayed because it was necessary to remove some pallettes and add rows of seats. Non-Alaskans' reactions were great when they saw seats being loaded on, having never seen a combi before. Also great reactions when they realized that the combi can not use a jetway because the passengers load through the rear. Got off the plane in FAI in -20F wearing just a t-shirt and pants. I received a funny look from the CSA who was very bundled up.

MCO-SLC 767-300

Dec 12: CI-31 YVR to TPE (on CI's 744)
Dec 13: CI-617 YVR to TPE (on CI's 737-800)
Jan 2: CI-620 HKG to TPE (on CI's A300-600)
Jan 2: CI-32 TPE to YVR (on CI's 744)

The last flight I took was on China Airlines between Vancouver and Hong Kong via Taipei. It was a full price ticket. Anyways, it was my first time flying on China Airlines, and it will be the last time I will fly on them for the reasons below:
-On my itenery, it stated that between HK and Taipei, I supposed to fly on 747-400 in both directions. But in the end, I ended up flying on two smaller planes (737-800 and A300-600). And we all know, China airlines don't have a good safety record. So I was hoping to fly on bigger planes. (just my personal preference)
-Also, I supposed to fly out of HK to TPE on Jan 2 at 10:30 am, but China Airlines phoned me just the day before my departure day that I needed to take an earlier flight at 9:15 am. Good thing someone picked up the phone call because I was out that day. Anyways, I ended up having to wake up at 5 in the morning since HKG airport was quite far from my home.
-no Cantonese cabin annoucement was made between HKG and TPE.
-at the waiting area for Gate A7 in TPE, there was a massage place that was operated by blind people. However, maybe I just have a really sensitive nose, because I thought the place made the waiting area smelled a little.

What stands out about this? Technically, the last flight was ATL-BNA, but this goes for both legs. The totally non-caring attitude of the FA's. The ones working my area just didn't give a crap. It seemed that obvious.
