Emirates Looking At Possibly Leasing More Aircraft

Thu Jan 15, 2004 9:58 pm

In an article in the Gulf News, the head of Commercial Operations at
Emirates (Ghaith Al Ghaith) hinted that the airline may seek to
procure additional aircraft beyond the 8 recently leased A340-300s
to cover "exploding" demand in the short-to-medium term. Recently
opened routes to Moscow and Lagos have been doing extremely well and
the carrier needs to boost frequencies on these as well as numerous
other routes across the network. Hence the urgent need for acft.

I wonder what types are available on the market at such short notice?

Also there is a strong chance that Emirates may pickup some
additional A340-500s to facilitate expansion on ultra long haul
routes (Australia -- Emirates are confident they will get approval
for a 2nd daily to SYD by the Summer). Currently 8 acft have been
ordered (3 delivered and in service) but the eventual fleet may rise
upto 12 aircraft. For the additional 4 aircraft i would assume 2
would be the ex-AC acft and 2 new orders ??

More used A340s or A330s don't seem likely - there are not many more available. Volare returned its A330 recently, but they are GE powered...
The two ex-AC A345 would be a good option.

Hey, and don't forget: since Cathay and Iberia are so damn dissatisfied with their A346, Emirates might be in discussions with them already...  Wink/being sarcastic

I heard about the first two AC 345s going to EK, but what about its 346s? Is AC going to have any -5/600s at all? If it isn't, might EK take these?

I think EK has soaked up the last of SQ's 343s (along with GF), so not much happening there?

Would EK ever consider 747-400s? Plenty of those going begging, with certain airlines like SQ and UA only too happy to dump a few of them. Indeed, some of UA's aircraft have already gone to Dubai. The -400 might be useful for some of EK's flights to LHR and Australia.

But Kaitak, don't forget that Emirates is happy to have just 777 (2&300) and 330/340. Any other models will be a huge headache for them. Imagine all the training for flight crew, cabin crew, engineering and so on... Probably that's why they use their aircrafts so well. All the cabin crew are trained for those aircrafts and the flight crew are divided in just two main categories. That's cost effective, trust me!

UAL747, have you been to Dubai? The place is exploding with new projects, and not just any projects massive ones. It's an incredible place. Come visit Dubai, I'll show you what I mean!

I wouldn't expect 744s, but it would not surprise me in the least.

Isn't United parking a bunch of 777's? I heard that the lease rates are such that it's more economical to park them and operate their 744's in their place. Maybe EK could take them over....

If EK had done this research of theirs are bit quicker and expected high demand then it should have leased all 12 ex SQ A 343s from BOEING and not have provided GF and EY the opportunity to lease 3 and 1 respectively ex SQ A 343s from BOEING!!!

I was fully expecting LOS and ACC to be very successful and that seems to be the case. Since its now 4 weekly flights, expect it to go DAILY very soon. Does anyone know how their F & J class loads on these flights are doing?

As for from where can EK get A 332s and A 343s/345s/346s...well maybe LX would like to lease to them a few A 332s??? But yes this is a good question as there arent many A 332s and A 340s that I can think of that are up for sale or lease anywhere in the world.

"GOD! What does Emirates do with all these aircraft, especially when they recieve the 123 Airbus A380 they ordered LOL"!  Confused

Umm,where did you get 123 A380 aircraft from??? Correct me if I'm wrong but Emirates order of A380 aircraft is only 45 aircraft.

I dont see EK lease B744's at all. It's fleet is based around the A332,A343,A345 & A346 family & B772 & B773 variants. Nice and simple if you ask me.  Big thumbs up

EK413, It's called humour! Big grin

Emirates777, EK now has 4 A345s (A6-ERA through D), I have seen them all at DXB over the last few weeks.

UAL747, This doesn't surprise me at all - EK recently said they could use A380s now if they could get their hands on them.

Serious boom time in UAE and Qatar!

Just curious if Emirates require aircraft NOW why not take on the 2 Ex-Air Canada A345's which are in idle in France  Confused Why is EK introducing the A346 in 2007 too!  Confused Is it course Airbus can't keep up with demand for aircraft delivery's and that was the earliest they could deliver the aircraft  Confused

Any info. would be great  Big thumbs up

So is Emirates happier with their Airbusess or their Boeings?, I know this is off-topic, but by ordering 45 a380s are they over estimating passenger numbers? Who knows, maybe the a380 project will be a failure. They're placing alota bets on that aircraft
Now you're really flying
