Four US Airways VPs Resign

Sat Jan 17, 2004 2:38 am

Four US Airways executives resigned yesterday. This can't be a good sign. They are:

Jennifer McGarey, VP - Deputy General Counsel & Corporate Secretary (going to MCI)
Jeffery McDougle, VP - Fleet (going to Laidlaw International)
Daniel McDonald, VP - Planning & Scheduling (going to DHL)
P. Douglas McKeen, VP - Labor Relations & Benefits (going into lablr consulting)

Note: It's strange that all their last names begin with "Mc"

Maybe they're cashing in on severance packages before ch. 7?

"P. Douglas McKeen, VP - Labor Relations & Benefits (going into lablr consulting)"

In light of their recent labor strife, does anyone else find it amusing that dude is going into "labor consulting"?

Actually, I think those can be reclaimed under bankruptcy if it is soon enough beforehand. Keeps people from doing exactly that.

LOL, not at all a good sign...

IMHO, the fat lady is warming up. It'll be the end of 2004 before she bursts out her highest note, though.

I think it's all part of US' general anti-scottish program. They obviously don't like the scotts! J/K

yeah... first thing I thought of was that the rats are starting to jump off the sinking ship. Sheeesh! good luck US!

RSA has to get its money out before USAir defaults on the gov't backed loans. Anyone know when the first of the payments are due?TC

Oh where to start. Unfortunately no one here really knows what is going on.

US Airways previously had 3 VPs dedicated to labor relations...now it is down to 2. The other positions are all being consolidated to other VP positions. These moves are positive since Labor hated a few of them and US Airways was plagued with toooo many VPs for awhile. Fewer executives on payroll works for me. I would like to see another 10 VPs leave the company to get costs down, on the management side, even further.

This is a positive thing and one labor has been demanding for a long time.

I'll be cashing in my Dividend Miles within the week. It's just too uncertain and this isn't a positive sign...

It's amazing how many people make rash, uneducated decisions. To each their own.

Hopefully we'll see a couple more VPs leaving...particularly Jerry Glass and the marketing guy.

Good call... has anyone been watching insider ownership of UAIR stock? I would suspect that there has been some insider selling lately.

Actually,
I just checked, here is the only insider trade filed recently...

(from CNBC http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/invsub/insider/trans.asp?Symbol=UAIR)

09/26/03 HAYES PERRY Sold 55 $6.38 $351

Off topic, do you really have to file to sell 55 shares?

I wish I could see something positive coming for US, but my outlook on them seems to get worse every day. This is not good.

People complain US Airways has too many VPs...then when they start trimming the fat, it is a bad thing. Sheesh.

Not a bad thing per se, but not a good sign either. US has been circling the drain for a while now, & within that reality, I do not see those positions being replaced, but I do see more resignations in the near term.

I'll take the minority postion and say that I do not believe they are doomed just yet (In fact, I think they have about the same odds of survival or demise as UAL), but when that many Veeps start packing it up at once, well, I think the term "Corporate Metastatysation*" is a good analogy.
Best of luck to all you hard workers at US.

*For those who don't know much about cancer, or if my spelling is way off, Metastatysation is the process of cancerous tumors spreading from one organ or system to another. . . . . .usually a sign that the writing is on the wall for the patient in question.
