50 Minute Connection In ZRH. Enough Time?

Sat Jan 17, 2004 12:19 pm

I currently have a reservation on hold that has is routed LHR-ZRH-LAX-DFW. Unfortunately, the flight to LAX was the only flight availible on LX, and there is a 50 minute connection between my arriving flight from London and my connecting flight to Los Angeles. Is that enough time between flights?

Easily doable unless you have to hoof your way between E and A/B concourses in which case a delay may screw you. Otherwise 50 minutes should be fine.

Don't worry about it!

I have made flights through FRA after a long UA flight to a domestic LH flight in twenty minutes. Mind you, that also included passport control and running like maniacs  Laugh out loud.
I've also mastered a DUS-ORD-IAD connection in 15 minutes, also with passport control, taking a tram to the UA domestic terminal and pleading for them to let us standbys get in! That was interesting! If you ever saw a lady running through ORD with three children, one almost not able to walk crying all the way, it was probably us!!!  Laugh out loud

It will still be tight! The security regulations of the U.S. force LX to have their flights to the States leave from another concourse than their European flights arrive (Long xray screening process, take off shoes and all that). If the LHR-ZRH flight has a slight delay, prepare for a night in a good hotel (unless the LAX flight is waiting for many connecting passengers). Then the bag connection's at risk...

If the LHR-ZRH flight is on BA, then it's no problem as BA arrives in the same concourse as the U.S. bound flights leave.

Good luck!

If your plane coming from LHR may arrive late in ZRH, your plane to LAX may depart late if you are lucky.

I have experienced much lateness with departing flights recently from :
GVA ZRH SIN.

Ask your Airline. They are responsible for the connection times.

Have a nice flight. Cheers. Kilavoud.

I'm quite sure that the official min. connection time in ZRH is 40min.

I don't think that you'll have any problem to catch your flight to LAX...but your baggage could have (only if your plane arrives a bit late from London).

MCT is indeed 40 mins., but even though the carrier is responsible if they are late and you miss the LAX flight, you don't get there when you want to. I keep my fingers crossed for an ontime arrival and a smooth connection at ZRH Airport.

Today's example: LX345 arrived 17 mins. late, LX40 departed 44 min.s late, waiting for connecting passengers.

Since we're talking connections in ZRH, and never having been there and traveling with an infant, we have a 1 hr connection coming in Swiss Air and departing AA to DFW. Is there a terminal change? What's the best way to proceed? I have a 2 hr connection inbound from the States, I don't think that's an issue.

It really depends where your inbound flight arrives at ZRH.

All flights bound for the States (AA, CO, DL, LX) leave from concourse A. European flights of LX usually arrive in concourse E but can also arrive in A. There is a train (Skymetro) connecting concourses A and E (runs every 2 min., travel time 90 secs.). Connecting time of 1 hour is conveniently enough but please mind the tight security procedures before entering the departure gate area in concourse A.

Absolutely no problem if all inbound flights arrive on time...
