AA Moving From South To North At LGW

Sun Jan 18, 2004 1:16 am

Just in case any of you didn't know they are moving from South to North terminal at the end of April, which means that anyone who doesn't get down here very often and wants any pictures of American Airlines 777s from the Skyview better hurry up!!!. It shall be a great shame because there will never be shots like these again:

If AA are moving north are DL moving south to be near fellow AF franchisee British European Flybee whatever they are called now and if so will Britairs AF flights go too?
Or are Air 2000/Fist Choice vacating ?
Or lastly does it mean further BA flight reductions at Gatwick to accommodate AA ?
How many AA flights are planned for gateways per day this summer ?

The move makes sense, easier to connect on 1world flights, i suspect AA might move into T5 at LHR with BA aswell.

When T5 is completed in 20-- what ever its no secret that ALL One World operators are likely to take up residence.
That i'll currently be BA/AA/QF/CX/IB/LX/B Med/EI.
With some further re-jigging of the other alliance operators into T1 and T4 as necessary.
Indications are that T2 may then be refurbished.

"The move makes sense, easier to connect on 1world flights, i suspect AA might move into T5 at LHR with BA aswell."

Just to add something to the disscussion, there is a "possibility" that BA will be moving to AA's new JFK terminal when it's complete around '07-'08.

AA had these HUGE mockups of their new terminal inside their current Terminal 8 at JFK, they also had these large detailed models of aircraft parked at the gates for the terminal. A good number of the model airplanes parked at the gates in the mockup were Oneworld airlines, especially BA!

Now I don't know if that means anything, but given how much work and detail went into the presentation I don't believe it was an oversight.

BA just completed a $400 Million Dollar renovation to their Terminal at JFK, so maybe they wont be leaving anytime soon.

Who knows, I just thought it was interesting.

Here are photos of the mockups they had on display..

The AA move makes sense given that AA can now codeshare on BA flights beyond LGW to European destinations. I wouldn't have thought that anyone would have to vacate the North Terminal to accommodate AA - just remember how many L/H flights BA has pulled from LGW in the past couple of years! Used to get those DC10/747 line-ups (later 777/763/747) - now just a handful of 777s.

In reverse, is BA likely to use any AA terminals in the US (Excluding JFK for now) now it can codeshare beyond its US gateways?
Let's Go British Caledonian!

As far as AA's new terminal at JFK. The project has been put on indefinate hold, and all construction has stopped. Due to AA's financial situation.
