American Airlines- Difference Between FC And Biz?

Sun Jan 18, 2004 10:15 am

please explain what the real differences are between first and business class on AA.

I have the option of flying, on an award ticket, business class Vs First class on American Airlines and the decision b/w the 2 really relies on other extraneous factors such as time, etc.

But in a flight from NY-LAX, First versus business class, what are the detailed differences?

thanks again for all of your help.

Only flights on AA 777 have first and business class. All other aircraft are two-class.

actually lmp737 is wrong.... sorry....

NY-LAX, I assume you are flying on B767-200 three-class Domestic Flagship Service.... basically the difference is a little bit more room in First (9 seats... 2 pairs of 2 on each side and one captain's chair in the middle) and the seats are the big brown wooly mammoth seats.... Business class seats are typical domestic First seats like you'd see on the narrowbodies, with maybe an extra feature for lumbar....

Meal service is slightly different... maybe one extra entree course and an appetizer plus a salad in first, while just a salad course in business...

honestly, it isn't worth it unless you want a few more inches of legroom and a choice between pasta, fish, chicken, and beef instead of just three of those...

LMP737, I ahve to agree with Flygirl. I too thought the same as you, but was surprised to find that some of hte 767s have 3 class service.

Flygirl, thanks for the tip. I figured it was just cool to do the Biz Class.

I couldn't envision seeing FC to be THAT much better in amenities.

Additionally, most domestic B777 flights are sold as two-class.... with elite tier AAdvantage members and full fare coach occupying the business-class seats... I believe only one DFW-MIA/DFW-LAX and maybe a transcon or two on the B777 are sold as 3-class.... also the 767-200s are sold as two-class if subbed on a mid-con.... have seen two-class sold on DFW-LAX substitution....

So in a 2 class configuration domestic, is it marketed as
having

a coach and business class OR
Coach and first?

Regardless, sounds like First and Business are remarkably similar.

thanks for the info.

the two class configuration domestic is marketed as having domestic first and coach, with the business cabin being reserved for top tier frequent flyers and those paying full fare (and a lot of non-revs)...

if you are burning miles for this ticket, and you don't earn miles fast, I'd conserve them and just go for Business.... still a comfortable way to spend five hours...

So I have always thought that F class on any aircraft was good.

But I have heard from a couple pf resources that F on AA's 757 aircraft is not great. What are the cons there?

I just searched the database for cabin views of first class and business class on the AA 757, 762 and 763 and didnt really find any.

Can anyone post images here or email me at flyineyes@aol.com with any?

I'd appreciate it!

Hi Mirrodie,

The differences, imho, aren't substantial enough to justify the extra cost. The upside to flying First Class trans-con is that you're bound to start-struck with someone famous, as those flights always have VIPs onboard.

From New York, you'd only be on the 757 if you flew out of EWR to LAX trans-con. I've done it plenty of times, and on UA to SFO, it's fine. The product is just more basic. It's better than flying DFW-LIM or BOS-MAN in that plane!

Here are two similar pics to the 767 b/c and 757 f/c. The actual photo is of the seats on the 777 and the A-300, respectively, but you get the idea. I am flying AA's 767-300ER next month to EZE in b/c, I'll see if I can take photo's of the cabin for you.

All of AA's flights JFK-LAX are currently being served with 767-200's and are all three class configs and sold as such. The difference between First and Biz are the ratio of flight attendants and First offers personal DVD players with a portfolio of 20 movies. The seats are also larger width with lumbar and electronic footrests.

The 30 biz class seats are 2x2x2 config and offer similar meal services (albeit one less entree choice) and ice cream desert as opposed to made on board sundaes in F/C. The seats are a bit smaller and although have footrests and lumbar, are what you would usually find as first class on two class aircraft.

Just flew LAX-JFK-LAX in P (First) and can say that it's not really worth it. The wooly mammoth seats are comfy but the business seats are just fine. The J cabin on the 762 is closer to the int'l J featured on the 763 and 777s than domestic first. Service is going to be good in either cabin, IMO. J in the 762 is going to be better than F in any other domestic aircraft AA offers (MD-80, A300, 738, 752). FWIW I *like* F in the 752 and prefer it to the S80, the old brown seats are quite comfy and the cabin is spacious.
