Anyonw Flown With Aegean Airways?

Sun Jan 18, 2004 8:59 pm

My parents are flying NCL-RHO on May 29th with Aegean Airways (A3). Do you know what aircraft it will be and what are they like to fly with?

It should be a Boeing 737, 400 I think. Kosmar, Golden Sun and Price right (all the main greek specialists) usually get together and charter flights to greece each summer and share capacity. In the past they have used somre really dodgy airlines and indeed even more dodgy planes. Air Miles 737, Hola Airlines 737 - with Spanish crew!, Macedonian airlines 737. Aegean I have not personally flown with but have heard that they are very good as they were once a buisness airline which flew inter island within Greece before merging with Cronus Air (a naff Greek charter company). Your parents are lucky they didn't end up on Islandsflug (Icelandic carrier) as they were amongst the ranks of bad airlines I mentioned above, somehow though they were lucky enough to be awarded more NCL - Greece flights this year unlike the others.

When I booked with Golden Sun to fly NCL-KGS-NCL back in 97, I was chartered to fly on Nordic East but a few weeks before, we were informed that the airline were performing poorly and therefore we would now be flying on Air Atlanta. Flight times were changed from 18:20 originally to 08:00 departure so I was quite pleased. However we were not told at the time of booking that the KGS flight continued on to RHO, so on out return after a week we had to make the short hop to RHO, sit onboard whilst the remaining homeward bound got on (1hr) then flew back, so my whole time sat on the plane back from KGS was nearly 7hrs!

I cannot really complain as it was a beatiful Lockheed Tristar and I got one albeit short extra flight out of it too.

Just remembered, are you aware of www.carsurvey.org they have an airline survey section too which is updated by the general public as they wish after any flight with any carrier. Take a look yourself.

I am sure there will be a few on there about Aegean.

Yes I am, thanks for the info. I remember when I worked in a travel agents a few years ago, when the likes of Peach Air and Nordic East, we dreaded using Inspirations cos they were the main users of those airlines and used to have really bad reports about them and the Nordic East Lockheed Tristar looked as if was about to drop to pieces but one of the girls flew with them and thought they were great, so that changed my mind about them. Air Atlanta aren't used as much as they have been in the past though, but I bet they weren't as bad as Transjet. I worked back in a travel agents for the second part of summer 2002 and if there was a holiday with a Transjet flight, customers would not book it, I dont blame them, i rather treasure my life and prefer not to dice with death if posible.

I've flown three times with A3 :
HER - RHO : the plane was a RJ
HER - ATH - RHO : the plane was a RJ
JMK - RHO : ATR42
As these flights were intra-Greece Flights and very short (1h maximum) I was not waiting too much!
What I can say : F/A were efficients, friendly but cold.
For European flights, I know that A3 uses B737 and that's surely what you'll have between NCL and RHO.
Flying is amazing!

Quite surprised at this comment. From what I have seen Islandsflug are a very professional outfit. had an aircraft based at BHX all summer with their own engineers. They operated for the smaller tour ops, and looking at the carsurvey.org reviews seem really good. heard many good comments about their services elswhere as well, and Astraeus have sub-chartered them before. Perhaps an unfair trial?
