Bwia Signs Lease For Second 340 Finally

Wed Jan 21, 2004 11:56 pm

After nearly 2 years BWIA will finally take delivery of the long awaited seond Airbus 340. The aircraft is schedule to be delivered in mid febuary.

The aircraft will have 40 business class seats and 215 economy seats for a total of 255 seats only 6 more than the L1011. The second 340 has less capacity than the first A340 registered as 9Y-TJN. I remeber that the second 340 was registered as TJM or TJO.

Anyway does anyone know who the lessor is i assume ILFC but i could be wrong. And who was the previos operator of the aircraft. BWIA may seek to expan it route as it will ave extra capacity. The Frankfurt and Zurich routes may be reopened.

JM has 3 a340's one of which is used at times on the KIN/JFK route. It is a great marketing tool. What is the likelyhood of BW following suit with a POS/JFK a340 flight, couple times a week. Remember when the 424 was ops with the L1011?

there's already talk about a 3rd A340 to be added later on.

POS is currently repaving it's sole runway but has run into some material delays. Once this is completed, the Gubment will resume plans with the FAA to restore trinidad to Cat1 Status.

Only until we regain Cat1 status can the A340 assume 424 again....mostly at Christmas and Carnival times of the year.

With Cat1 resumed, the 738s will be heading into Houston, Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale.

To support "BWIA 772", I also think it's a healthy assumption that the A340s will venture back into Frankfurt and Zurich and/or other euro destinations.

I have all the information that you need but I am afraid that I cannot give it out over a public forum until I know for sure that the information can be released. I don't want anyone losing their job. I will speak to him and if he allows me I will fill in the blank tomorrow.

Let's just say that you will be pleasantly surprised when you find out. Oh btw I believe you have the seating arrangement wrong because they are leaving the seats from the previous operator and they had a 3 class arrangement.

Till tomorrow.

1st A340 is used to LHR. Second A340 will be used for flights to MAN (flights may extend to GLA) and possibly some other cities.

Which island (or city) does 9Y-TJO signify? I assume 9Y-TJM represents Jamaica (if they decide on that one)

Sorry that i have waited till now to respon however school just started back aso i was busy with that sorting out classes etc.

I have realise that the 340s were not registered like the 738 fleet. BTW i think that how they registered the 738 fleet was pure and utter rubbish. I dont see why they couldnt register they jets like 9Y-TGA to TG and retain the sunjet names. I think that for the long haul fleet BWIA should name them Sunjet Trinidad (TJN) and Sunjet Barbados the new 340. Or name the aircraft Warmth of Georgetown, Warmth of Port Of Spain in keeping iwht the company's slogan of "Sharing our Warmth With The World".

Panman i will not share any info u give me oevr a public forum. If u feel like sending me an Email my address is avaible at my profile.

BTW TJN was repainted right? Does BWIA plan to bring back maintainence of the aircraft in house?? There is room at Piarco to build 2 hangars that can accomdate 747s if they wanted to go all out.
