As far as I know it was to be 31March (internal work reports) However I have yet to hear anything on this matter since, so perhaps it could be a grudual entry or be pushed back to June. I think stay tuned on this matter and expect an announcement in the coming weeks.

This is a question I have been wanting to know too! Im planning a trip on Lan Chile this year and want to add to my Swiss FF miles, but will only do it once they are officially in oneworld.

Interesting...a few months ago I booked a ticket with AA Miles (I already flew) and they gave me the option of flying Swiss, but the dates did not work out and I went with BA.

@SafetyDude: Swiss and American already accept each other's FF cards (since 2002 I think), and they also have codeshare flights.

AA and Swiss have been partners since before 2002. AA have been partners with the company since the days of SR. AA replaced DL as SR's US partner.

Why More On Swiss?

Fri Jan 23, 2004 3:44 am

I have a question for anyone who knows:
Why does SWISS Travel Club award miles cost 70K+ from US to Europe for example? And various other airlines such as STAR or OneWorld require only 50K and VS only 40K to LHR?? Even on AS when redeeming miles on BA it's 50K and AA is 40K. What's the biggie about LX or BA compared to VS or AA?

Last I heard, Swiss will not join Oneworld until at least July 2004, due to concerns over Swiss's financial trouble.

My partner flew to Zurich last week with Swiss and he earned BA miles, flying a Swiss aircraft - though when he phoned BA's Gold Executive Club, they did not know too much about it...

Funny...

As I know Swiss is already member. It was accepted and admitted by the other members on a meeting at end of last year. Or am I wrong?
It only needs some time to organize everything.

They're not yet a member. But the codeshare with BA is already in effect, at least between ZRH and LHR.

Kimberly, I think that BA's Executive Club is merging with the Swiss FFP and that therefore BA Executive Club Miles will be earned on all Swiss flights. Part of The BA/LX deal that included LHR slots I believe.

At the same time Swiss committed itself to joining Oneworld but no firm date for the completion of this was given.

There's more on this BA press release from September: -
