Being from India and being used to seeing the AI
744s, 743s, A310s and the occasional 742, I find the livery quite boring and old. It's been unchanged since the 1970's.
However, it's different, when you compare it with the more modern liveries of competing airlines. The 'window architecture' depicts the windows in palaces of India, of years gone by. While it is only a single color (red, if you accept white as the universal background color) it comes across as flowing well, especially the part that goes up into the tail of the aircraft.
However, I am of the opinion that it's time to change. Any good world class airline worth its salt does an image makeover every few years (7-10 yrs would be the average I guess) which includes a change in livery, sometimes a change in logo, repainting of aircraft exteriors and refurbishment of interiors etc etc.
Air India needs a lot to be done to improve its sagging image. It needs to be re-launched in more ways than one. It needs new aircraft to replace the old 742s, 743s and A310s. It needs re-motivation and retraining of staff to make them serve passengers better. ......and it needs a new owner, who will make it the world-class airline it truly deserves to be.
However, your post will delight those who like the AI
livery & logo, no matter how old it is.........
