Europe Elite - All Info. Required & A Couple Of Qs

Fri Jan 23, 2004 4:45 am

A few years ago, a proposed airline - Europe Elite - was to operate between LHR and a few cities in the CIS, such as TAS and ALA, using the 752. But it did not come to fruition. Does anyone know why it didn't begin? Does anyone know what other cities were planned to be served? I think Astana, but I might be mistaken.

Was this the airline that had Lord Tebbit as Chairman?
I do remember reading about this airline and then it just disappeared. I seem to remember they had offices in Mayfair.

CKT789, I think you may be thinking of BlueFox which had Lord Tebbit as chairman and was to operate transatlantic from STN. Like you say, it disappeared without trace.

Sorry Pe@rson, I am none the wiser regarding Europe Elite though I do vaguely remember them being mentioned a few years back.

Capital 146 - Yeah, you're right. I was getting mixed up. There was loads of new starts knocking about ages ago and nothing has come of them (also KissAir, Mama Airlines, etc.)

I am pretty sure that two of this proposed airline's destinations were TAS and ALA from LHR. Pretty good, seeing there's clearly a demand for these services and there was only one carrier on each route at the time. However, this might have been the problem: in a monopoly situation, there are normally very high barriers to entry, such as being highly established and regarded on the route, economies of scale, etc. etc.
