ATA & Amtran Inc.

Tue Jan 18, 2000 11:26 am

Amtran Inc. was formed a few years after ATA was but on all news releases it says "ATA a principal Subsidary of Amtran Inc." What is Amtran Inc. I don't think Amtran is a airline. what is it?

Amtran is the holding company of American Trans Air. It similar to AA, where AMR, Inc. is the holding company for American Airlines. So wherever you hear "Amtran" in an aviation sense just consider it synonymous with ATA. I think the ATC callsign for ATA is even "Amtran".
