Again, the CEO has said - and it has been repeated here - that any expansion will be very slow.
And, as desirable as LAX
may be, it does have certain limitations for F9
As Timberwolf correctly said, Southwest has a lock on many of the "near" destinations. Add in HP
and Alaska, as well as the big boys, and nouth/south west coast is not thick with opportunity.
Mexico is pretty much out. Under the bi-lateral, only two airlines from each country can serve any Mexico/US city pair, and most of those city pairs are already allotted.
There are some exceptions to this in Mexico, and a couple of attractive destinations, but all the big ones have gone.
Canada? When/if F9
starts serving Canada, it will be from DEN
would be a long, long way down the track.
New York? Frontier's NY airport is LGA
, and under present rules, no airline can fly LAX
/LFA except on a Saturday, when the perimeter rules are relaxed.
This means that either they'd have to change the perimeter rules at LGA
, or F9
would have to open up at another NY airport.
I'd guess that HNL
will come eventually, but again, the CEO has said that HNL
is "a long way from the top of the list."
is not exactly lacking in air service.
All that said, there are some opportunities - and good ones - for Frontier at LAX
It just takes a little imagination.
